Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Better than Ackwafina or whatever her name is

I detest akwafina. She's a cancer that ruins whatever she touches. She's got one annoying character and it needs to KIS.

I really dislike how these days EVERY Western cartoon ever is the same pastiche of Marvel gay writing, Cal Arts, the writer's past experiences in college (usually sad), or all three at once.

Same writing, same face, same fag shit. It's all so tiresome.

Nobody wants original content when the people behind it are creatively bankrupt and whose only bit of wisdom when it comes to writing a story is "write what you know" (they don't apply it correctly).

I don't like new things because the only thing faggot creators know is tumblr, niggerfaggots, and porn, which means that's all they know how to make. It's all fucking soyfag slop. When your straight friends recommend books because there are muhlezbeens it's time to reread old books.

I recently finished a rewatch of Common Side Effects.
Fantastic show, even better than Scavengers Reign imo.

The plot of the series is that a female cartoonist lives in a world where cartoon characters can come to life and do battle similar to a Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh!. The cartoon characters are known as IRLs (In Real Lifes) and work as stands for their creators. At one point, the main character Bianca stumbles upon a long supressed IRL known as LOKI, a villain who feeds on people knowing/acknowledging him. The two will work together to enter the tournament and defeat other IRLs.

>""""original content""""

Just kill American animation already. We are so fucked as a culture, it's not even funny. There's reviving an IP and keeping it alive, and then there's this shit. A massive ouroboros, just eating and regurgitating itself over and over again.

/co/ added more credence to it as Dreamworks was easily going to wreck another one of their IPs going this route. Kung Fu Panda 4 was going to have Po interact with humans. The Chameleon was initially a human woman, there are even concepts for it:

I mean... how much worse than the actual final product could it have been? Humans are technically animals after all, they could have been treated like a subtype of monkeys. Some kinda alternate universe where humans are on the same level as other animals.

It would definitely be pretty univers/franchise ruining, but it would still be way more interesting than yet another 'cartoony IP character in modern day new york city' type of thing. Especially Shrek of all franchises.
I guess the og was a satire of disney fairytales, so theres a slim chance this is a satire of those kinds films, but the chances theyre not gonna fuck it up are near 0.

Are you all ready for the savior of Western Animation to drop on the 24th?

That's right. Our boy RebelTaxi is getting ready to drop 95% of his pilot for his new series LOKI IRL at Momocon. He already showed off some of it in a stream a few days ago in a now unlisted stream, but will be releasing the majority of the pilot at the event.

For those who don't know, LOKI IRL was YouTuber RebelTaxi's decade+ long project that he tried to get green lit at Adult Swim, leading to the humiliation ritual below - watch at your own risk:

Fuck it dude, the premise is nothing special but when the hell was the last time we got an actual digimon/yughioh-esque cartoon? Years? The fact that I don't immediately despise the artstyle is a REALLY good start in this age of total slop.
Just know that based on the way he acts in real life (I PROMISE you those guys he embarrassed himself in front of got on the phone and blacklisted him from anywhere animation related as soon as they were sure he was out of earshot.) we may just see him breakdown on camera on a level not seen since that Toy Story video if/when this fails.

It looks like an unholy mix of vivzie, genndy, and everything else that's wrong with modern cartoons.

That brings other unfortunate questions such as why aren't humans the default rulers of the animal kingdom as RL, what does everyone eat, what's humans' shtick in a world of talking animals, what about interspecies relationships, etc.
Didn't watch at the latest KFP, I stopped at the first one as I wasn't impressed. Is it true that in the latest movie the panda becomes incompetent so that the new girl can shine, as like every other time a female protagonist shows up in Western media (which usually results in all male characters suddenly losing dozens of IQ points at least)?

Grains, vegetables, fruits and humans probably have no discernable advantage here since all other animals are sapient and have tool usage and civilization.

That is something to think about in regards to civilization itself existing on the same planet. It's why I favor select anthropomorphics in my works.

Genuinely some of the best screenplay / TV writing advice I've ever heard was given by Zach Hadel on The Create Unknown. When talking about TV writing that's actually fresh and funny, he says the most important thing is that you cannot just be recapitulating everything you know about your medium / genre because then it's just a show about tv shows or a movie about movies. You have to be into unusual things, you have to be able to draw something into your work that will be novel or compelling to people. Something that isn't just "I watched every episode of Spongebob and ATLA".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ale1WcRxUJI (Link to the vid, will update with timestamp when I find it. It's a good episode though, I recommend listening to the whole thing)
a similar thing has been said by hayao miyazaki, about tolkien and about hitman and red dead of all things. hayao was a guy who had a ton of hobbies and observed people, he never watched anime to learn how to make anime. tolkien was a linguist first, author second. the hitman guys have hobbies outside of games and movies. and the red dead people stopped watching movies and went to classic literature for inspo. if everyone's basing their shit off of star wars and marvel: whatever's either contemporary or popular to rip off, then you get a ton of samey media

Which is a problem, since if these anthro animals have animal senses, they have a massive advantage over humanity already (reminds me of how RWBY accidentally made Faunus racism more and more justified the more you learneda bout how better the animal people are compared to humans), but this is not a topic that movie would cover anyway.

I remember him saying that people and cartoons can have children in this world. Is this going to be gooner cringe?
If him spilling his spaghetti in front of Genndy Tartakovsky wasn't a sign it was a coomer fantasy, I don't know what it'll take to get people to realize Pan's dick has been the one spearheading the project.

Animaniacs was psychic poison in the first place, but they really managed to make this reboot far worse than the original. This whole thing about the original Animaniacs having political humor is a total retcon - “while Bill Clinton plays the sax” and a few tepid jokes about Whitewater or Al Gore being boring doesn’t exactly make it shocking political satire. The reboot is like a cartoon that's made for Twitter manchildren (whom most animated series seem to be made for now) and Boomers at the same time.
Being disingenuous on purpose hasn't changed 5 years later. In fact it has only gotten worse with people who are made to tell you something in the completely wrong way. Since Animaniacs had a Prince joke would that make it also a commentary on the music industry? But to these same peolpe a few political jokes puts it on the same social satire as cartoons like Family Guy or South Park. This is a byproduct of the "all art is political" people.
Funny you said Family Guy because a lot of people that did the reboot of Animaniacs worked on FG. The reboot was a big fat meh over all.
I don't remember watching much but i wasn't too interested in it. I expected a few trump jokes here and there but from what i am seeing it does that modern writing thing that is still plaguing us half a decade later. The joke is the writer's bias to pull the punches directly at their enemies. Like a perfect setup to mock something only for them to actually not mock it (the gender neutral thing for example) because the way the social climate is there is a list of "off limits" things peolpe can't make fun of.
