DOOM

I mean I think Eternal's the "best doom" but its also nonsensical to stack rank games that have totally different appeals. Old doom is an exploration game first and foremost about solving minor puzzles and navigating a maze. There's tons of games with similar appeal and while I like the original DOOM I think some of its successors like hexen or duke3d improved on that.

Right now there's really only one DOOM Eternal.
OG doom is supposed to be an action horror game with exploration. Eternal is a heroic action game. Every choice seems to be you have to get in close and fight, you have no retreat from combat for eternal.

Being honest, I wouldnt doubt that if this site was around in 1994 someone would post some shit on how doom 2 ruined the series by adding the super shotgun or shit like that

Master Levels is pretty bad, if you ask me, the maps by Dr Sleep (Geryon, Minos's Judgement, Nessus, Vesperas and Virgil's Lead) are the best ones.
Also I kinda agree on NRFL, its great.
I would put it above Sigil 1 and 2 to be honest if we consider it any level of "official"

Edit: I just remembed the funniest game review I can think, even in 1994 journos were retards

"lf only you could talk to these creatures, then perhaps you could try and make friends with them, form alliances... Now, that would be interesting"

He looked a bit like the actor who played Zod in Man of Steel.
Michael "I WILL FIND HIM!" Shannon?

you have no retreat from combat for eternal.
This is also why its exhausting to play. It really is nonstop action in every good and bad way. No wonder oldheads don't particularly care for this Eternal, I'm a younger guy and even I have trouble keeping up with all the crap going on. Speaking of which, Horde Mode is the worst thing added to the game by a mile, genuinely don't know what the hell they were thinking with it.

Was hoping the poster would've given us a concrete weapon concept art list
Found it.

so it seems like for this game instead of weapon mods you have weapon variants that you swap to, with each having different abilities with stuff like a plasma gun with 2 barrels, or a grenade launcher or a rocket launcher. but why would I use stuff like the single barrel shotgun or plasma rifle when I could just use the Super Shotgun like you would if you were playi-

Funny thing, the review was made one month after the release of Shin Megami Tensei 2, which allowed to do just that.

Being honest, its just a result of following what the fans were making with their horde modes, it was a "the players want it so lets do" regardless of how well its done.

Also, agreed on Eternal being kinda tiring, I never finished it on a sitting, same with 2016 and 3. I did finish RoE on a single sitting, on my first replaying.

Compared to, lets say, Half Life or RTCW, these games require more energy than most to me.

You know, regardless of if the quality is great or not, I must say, ID put a very brave move by making all 3 games very different from eachother instead of just copy and paste everything like most AAA devs do.

Anyways, I think im gonna try some wads (and finish Metro Exodus) and try buy Dark Ages only by december, had to buy new clothes and will be out of money until november.

Doom 2016 was a banger but I got bored of Eternal, I get what they were trying to do with damage types and stuff but I'm a fag who likes to play my own way and it just got a bit boring. I'm interested to see what they do with this one.

Nigga how many hours do people play games for to finish them in a single sitting? Am I just dogshit because the only games I ever finished in were Call of Duty 3 and World at War and that was a slog.

I hate nu doom artstyle it's so gay and sterile, it tries to be edgy but feels corporate and safe, like some modern adult swim shit soytoon shit, i know Doom was never really a horror game, but where are the impaled corpses? Demons look like monsters but not really demons, violence is cartoonish and bland.
I don't know how to explain it, the best I can describe it is a millennial's vision of something metal and saturday cartoons.

It gets harder and harder for me to pull 2+ hour sessions as I get older. Back in the day I could knock out an all-nighter no problem.
I remember how Doom Eternal made fun of woketards by representing the murderous demons as misunderstood minorities, which triggered the wokes alright, kek. Years later, Frieren becomes popular and the same issue is brought up.
"Aura...KILL YOURSELF."

Eternal does the Body Horror thing pretty well, some times it reminds me a bit of the more flesh and guts type hell in Inferno, in contrast with the more generic fire and brimstone type you normally see. Granted its arguably that the "flesh growths" may look closer to the Flood or the Corruption from Dead Space.

I'm interested to try Dark Ages when it unlocks. that said, I generally loathe the nuDooms and prefer the old ones. I tried so hard to like Doom 2016, but it's such consolized slop. I try not to be dogmatic about the new shooters, but the 2000s console/military shooter era really laid fucking waste to the genre. thankfully the indies and AA studios have managed to break out of that paradigm and rediscover the ideas that made FPS the genre to beat in the 90s and early 2000s. AAA studios though, being the most inflexible, are still struggling and failing to find their way out of the mud. I just want some juice, some combat that compares favorably to what's already been done, a step sideways at the very least instead of five steps backwards. I'm even down for a story with unskippable cutscenes as long as it doesn't suck. just show me some spark of creativity instead of yet another huge bucket of slop for retards.

But it like isn't, though? Most of the stuff in the game outside of maybe art design are in pretty clear contrast to modern shooters, Eternal even more so.
