As long as they're doing bad '90s softcore sex thrillers, I hope they drag out Body of Evidence, which may be even more ludicrous than Color of Night. The unholy pairing of Willem Dafoe and Madonna, and one of the most laughably idiotic plots ever dreamed up -- Madonna being prosecuted for murder after an older lover dies in bed with her, because, see, she was planning to literally fuck him to death. Hence the title, get it?

But as Willem Dafoe so sagely points out (he's her defense attorney and of course ends up in bed with her too) ... "It's not a crime to be a great lay."

Great stuff, really.

Body of Evidence was awful. And not even in a fun way.

I enjoy seeing great, serious actors like Dafoe in embarrassing slop, and what could be more embarrassing than a Madonna vanity project?
Oh, Willem Dafoe proved that even doing sex scenes with Madonna is not the worst a great actor can stoop to. Watch his last ten years of roles.

They're not even allowed to make R rated movies in China anymore. I haven't seen one since the total communist takeover of Hong Kong happened.
Is there anything special about HK anymore or are the laws there the same as the rest of the country? I've been watching a lot 90s HK action movies lately and they sure mention the date 1997 a LOT.

I think it's gone full commie a few years back, there were lots of protests and the communist party paid triads to attack the protesters.

The last Hong Kong movie with gore in it I can remember is Gong Tau from 2007 by Herman Yau the director of The Untold Story.

Look! It's Tilda Swinton in Suspiria, except younger!

It became a very wealthy city by laundering products between the west and China. After the recent crackdown by the Chinese government, nobody considers it a separate entity anymore, so it’s lost that function.

That was when the British formally handed it to China.

"Oh no, it's someone with gender dysmorphia, that's why they look like a freak!" - A 'clunky' 90s thing apparently.
Ahh, yes. Because the troons definitely don't look like freaks anymore in our enlightened current year. And they certainly can't be clocked in a split second like the character in this movie. Sure thing.

Yeah, I'm well aware. A lot of plots are about criminals preparing for this significant transition. It's just weird to me how a single city was under different law for over 150 years. In CHINA of all places.

If I had the ability to travel in time and space, I'd definitely go there ca. 1990 to sightsee. It seemed like a well-developed city before globohomo and Chinese rule.

In the early 90s my mom used to go on work trips to Hong Kong and brought back jade statues and jewelry and stuff. I imagine it was all relatively cheap. Or maybe she just splurged over there. My bigger memory is the week of frozen lunches since my dad can't make sandwiches.
