UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

To defend him I believe that hatred largely stems from one particular cow nakedly abusing our legal system to harass him and his family to a heinous degree with impunity. So the hatred is more our underlying system and that the wider population have not risen up to string up our overlords.

Making us use a VPN to access Kiwi Farms should be mandatory for every user. He's just now ensured people in the UK optimistic enough to still believe that posting on here isn't enough to get a police visit are taking precautions, even unwillingly.
Hmm, no I'm going to disagree. I've heard him respond to that on MATI. He's said that people, like yourself, lay the blame if his Anglo phobia at the feet of Vordrak. But no, he literally and sincerely hates all of us, with the honourable exception of possibly Caroline Farrow (fair enough imo).

Not that I'm really complaining though. Sometimes the Tor browser is slow, or doesn't work. But I'd rather read my favourite Greggsposters' views that way than go to prison for saying "nigger" too many times (i.e. ever).

No, he just hates the British lmao. Sometimes you just hate, it is what it is.

Just heard a guy on the high street turn to his mates and say "Oi, come on, Nandos - yes or no".

Something about it just tickled me. The seriousness of the question. But at the same time, I understand the underlying anxiety: it's now or never guys. Either we get food now at a sensible time, or the evening just degenerates into going to every single pub along this street and a disaster of a kebab around kicking out time. We'll all regret it tomorrow.

I didn't hear the answer. But based on my own past I would guess that they never went to Nandos in the end.

Every time I've been there it's been full of rowdy darkies. Very un-based.
Fair enough, without getting into details I will vouchsafe that there are plenty of "non-urban" Nandos that are perfectly pleasant to dine at.

My understanding was that darkies preferred fried chicken to grilled. Maybe there should be a policy of placing a KFC within 500 yards of each Nandos to distract them away?

xitter is having a field day with Starmer today. Random sampling before I go to suffer in the sauna that used to be our bedroom.

"we risk becoming an island of strangers". Tell me you're out of touch with reality without telling me.
We became an island of strangers in 1990s and only cordiality and decency carried us through to 2010 when everything went tits up.
Pakis have been shagging white kids for 40 years but becareful because we may end up an island of strangers?
Drop dead you sweaty cock-sniffing puffter. Even Blair wasn't this evil.

I'm just glad for Starmer's quotes today because I can FINALLY mask off in public about hating him. I can say "I can't believe we're living in a time where Labour are more right wing than the Tories" and call him a racist scumbag for wanting immigrants deported. Whereas before I'd have to pretend I gave a fuck about trannies or the disabled.

Yeah but you're still pretending you give a fuck about immigrants.

Perhaps stop being such a fucking coward, instead.

Keir Starmer is now to the right of Richard Tice on the issue of immigration.

Sad and pathetic, as usual. The care sector is fucked because of this, go into any town on a weekday and it's full of mongs being escorted by africans gibbering nonsense on their phones that we paid for. I know from a personal contact that agencies in the caring industry are full of useless foreigners that don't give a fuck.

I worked in care about 9 years ago before pivoting, but just then, the wave of Africans started. Now it is infested. A business owner I know who used to run a care home was saying how it is a trap because they cannot afford to increase salaries due to government subsidies, and then can't due to immigrants. The stories I could tell of the cost-cutting in the NHS, too are horrifying and one of the major factors of my resignation there.

As for Starmer he is truly fucked now because of 2 issues.
  • He is too far right of his party, creating disillusionment.
  • He has emboldened Reform and scuppered all his policies.
The only reason why he has not lost a bill is because of gaming the system and forcing them through, which, if I am correct, was a tactic Pitt the Younger used because the Whig faction would outvote him. Now the more cunning in the party will use the Disability cuts as a focal point to oust him because he created that point of weakness in being too brash on Reform.

It is a very clever move by Farage and Labour traitors because they egged him on to reveal his hand before the river had been fully played. Maybe this is what we discussed, and Morgan MacSweeney ousting him by having Starmer fall on the sword and saving himself.

I think Cooper may be the architect of destruction, though, because if you listened to her verbiage, it was harsh but well crafted, and it put her in a more favourable position. This does feel like the finish line now, though, I cannot see him lasting the summer, which oddly enough is another Pitt the Younger thing because Fox coined the term "He won't last till Christmas".

Island of strangers lol. Go walk around Southall, Hounslow. I've been to fucking India and I can tell you there are parts of this country that decently well off Indians don't want to go to anymore. Total jeet/paki death or there is no way back.

The worst part of London is that it imported the all the servant caste Indians and Pakistanis. It's full of the people even the Indians hate.
