This surely took custom software, perhaps not hardware modifications, but definitely software installations. And on a purely consumer level, YES, you should be able to do shit like that, and should be able to do it with a switch 2 as well. Let me elaborate further to clear up any confusion here:

If Mald had pointed to an article with wording from Nintendo that more DISTINCTLY clarifies that Nintendo might consider warranty-voiding activities, such as those involved in repairing a console, as grounds for bricking a console, then I wouldn't have had a problem with his post here and I wouldn't have said anything about it.

What he DOES link, on the other hand, is an article that clearly spells out both the UK and US terms of service, neither of which remotely suggests that you might be at risk of getting your console bricked for repair jobs (who here hasn't actually had to get a battery replacement for their Switch as of yet? Or performed a repair job on your Joycons to fix stick drift?); ONLY for making modifications that would enable piracy or make the console function in "unintended" ways, which makes it come across as though Mald didn't actually read what he posted before trying to jump in on dogging on Nintendo with his "expert hackermans" knowledge. Like, there's already plenty of valid reasons to give Nintendo shit, especially lately. I don't think you need to make up a whole other narrative just to draw more attention to yourself.

I don't think Kitboga really does anything like that. He definitely plays up his stuff sure, his last video was like "we hacked scammers audio" but really he just got them to agree to allow his fake bitcoin website to use their microphone, but it's definitely not on the level of being a smarmy know-it-all like Jason. Plus he's practically singlehandedly responsible for making pajeet racism what it is today so that's pretty funny on its own.

The way I imagine Mald's server working is that he feeds ideas to his jannies who then, probably clunkily, throw them together using pre-existing Minecraft plugins. This would result in lots of changes having to be made as we've seen before, especially if the janny-tranny team are unfamiliar with said plugins.

None of this is particularly hard so it is still within the realm of possibility that Mald is capable of it. But from the little MC server development I've seen, it seems to just be him adding and changing values. Not any unique plugin development.
