I think Phil is desperate to be seen as cool and informative, but because he's never actually been any of those things, he tries to emulate it by pretending to be an OG in whatever he's discussing. IMO, it's another way he's never really matured because it's behavior I can only ever remember from being a literal child. It's along the lines of "I have an Uncle at Nintendo" kids make up stuff like that and pretend to be experts in things their peers are interested in because they want to impress said peers and come off as cool. It's like when a kid brags about seeing an R rated movie, or having a sip of beer one time. They think it's impressive because they live in such a small bubble, they don't realize how little it actually means in the grand scheme of things.

It arguably means even less today than when Phil was younger because of how accessible things are, even for kids. A big part of the brag back in the day was simply having access to something that wasn't easy to get. Kids could be cool just by virtue of owning a console or having cable or whatever, but all those things are much more common. Doesn't matter if you were an OG fan of something like Dragonball, someone with a smartphone and enough time can watch all the episodes, read the manga or do a wiki dive and be on the same page.

It's the same logic Phil applies to day 1 views. He acts like people will flock to him because it's the only way they can experience a game when, in reality, if it's a game they're interested in, they're probably not going to watch and play it themselves. Or if they're really curious about watching someone play before buying it, there's no shortage of other people who are also streaming it day 1.

TLDR is basically Phil is a massive hermit with such limited social skills he thinks the world still works under schoolyard logic.

Who gets the condo when phil dies? Assuming kat's health issues are real, phil will likely outlive her leaving literally no one irl who even knows who phil is. They both look bad for their ages so I guess this is for whoever lives the longest of the two but I'm just guessing it will be phil. Its just crazy to think obviously he has no kids of his own but he doesn't even have any nieces or nephews or anything either. He has no family younger than him to miss him or even notice when he's gone. Of course his infamy will live on online and he'll be remembered by the internet for all the wrong reasons but there's going to be no real people who are affected in anyway when he dies. There's going to be no one left with cherished memories of him and miss him. It'll just be *poof* he's gone and there's no one to even notice. It really does make me wonder sometimes whether he was always like this or whether the decades of alcohol abuse, stress and poor sleep completely wrecked his nervous system, on one hand he did play a lot of fighting games and was half-decent at them and that requires a lot of fine motor skills. On the other he was never that good at them and I don't ever remember him ever having really clean inputs. Even back when you look at his fighting game uploads from 2008-2010 he'd drahp really simple inputs all the fucking time.
