It's the old name for Vice's video game site. I was under the impression that it was dead and I was surprised to hear the name (and honestly it was never exactly successful in the first place)

Looking into it, they seem to have attempted a Waypoint "relaunch" in 2024 after firing all their old writers and not paying them severance they were apparently owed. When a site does something like that, it's because it wants to start fresh with a bunch of desperate freelance "writers" at absolutely bottom-of-the-barrel prices, so it can string them along for a year or two until it's confident that they can be replaced by AI.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ana is getting paid a $0 base rate for his articles and then earning a couple of dollars for every thousand clicks. Which probably explains why he is so angry and desperate for attention.

I have been bitching about 404media.co/404 Media (space in name) for a while now due to their heavy deplatforming/"no fun allowed" focus that have made them the Internet Karen tech news site. They require special attention from our community. I recommend bookmarking and keeping an eye on them if you are reading this. Some of their articles require a login to view, but I don't know what the pattern is. They may have done it specifically to make archiving them harder, but Archive.today often has these full articles so *shrug*.
