This seems to boil down to "Assume Nick Rekieta is lying. That means Nick Rekieta is lying." Sure, he lies a lot, but he's also a moron. You have no evidence in either case that Nick is lying instead of just being a drug-addled fool who can't keep track of time.

Initially, I believed Rekieta was lying about April having another boyfriend. It struck me as unusual, though, because that type of direct factual claim doesn’t align with his typical pattern of dishonesty. While Rekieta certainly lies frequently, he tends to do so through paltering or by misleading through implicature rather than through outright fabrication. A clear example of this can be seen during his last appearance in Melton’s chat, where he implied that Aaron had forced himself on April—only to later walk back or clarify the statement.




At this point, I do believe that April’s new boyfriend likely exists. It seems unlikely that Rekieta would create such a situation, even as part of some convoluted gay op scheme.



That said, I’m not convinced he’s truly cut off communication with her. Fidelity does not appear to be a defining trait in either April or Rekieta’s relationships. What is clear, however, is that Rekieta appears completely broken by the fact that he “lost” April.

Granted I don't know the situation in Candyoshi County, but POs tend to have large caseloads and the time not spent in routine meetings is spent trying to put out fires. Drug addicts get in conflict with the people running section 8 housing and group homes a lot for instance. POs don't sit there cooking up ways to violate their criminals. The state doesn't want them in jail because it's more expensive and those beds are needed for worse criminals.

That's they way a friend who's a PO has explained it to me.
