The CIA successfully made everyone forget Nixon's landslide political victory, successful foreign policy, and successful domestic policy because of muh Watergate. That's it. Total propaganda victory by communists.
The crazy part to me is that dems could have pulled off some of the green energy economic boost if they went full nuclear which is why I think the party has been maliciously negligent when it comes to stewardship and long-term outlook.

Okay, we want more EVs. What about chargers? Whoopsie doopsie, flower child, you only have like 2 or 3 chargers outside your office in Rockville, MD and maybe 10 in any given major airport parking lot, but they don't have any in Nowhere, KS. Not only that, but the grid can't support it because it was built in 1948 and most grids in the US are held together by duct tape and the prayers of the US Department of Energy. So you have to build those.
But wait, you need the software to run these, and the cables, and the ports, and coolant, and so on. This is where the greens get hard and imagine EVs jumpstarting the economy because there are a ton of existing industries that come into play, but the problem is integrating them all... which is where the greens fail because there are no large national business associations or coordinating bodies to handle it. They're catching up, sort of, but some of these associations are run part-time out of community colleges because it's so slipshod and it relies upon Department of Energy coordinators who are, for the most part, not skilled leaders. They do not have the gumption and there is so much red tape for bureaucrat sinecures that it slows things down. There is no one going "fuck you niggers, I'm doing this my way, follow me or eat my dust." Everyone is too polite. Musk was trying to do that, but he sided with Orange Man and now politicians who once wanted to suck his dick now hate him. All his foibles and scummy shit aside, he was trying to be a trailblazer.
Then you have the price of EVs themselves, which are too damn high. Then you have the demand for lithium, which is already a rare earth mineral. You know what you need for an ICE? Steel and aluminum. Then you have the even bigger bugaboo which is road maintenance because EVs are much heavier and absolutely destroy roads. I see companies designing charging complexes, the software to manage them, recycling batteries, making them charge faster, and there are even people specializing in battery safety since they present unique fire and environmental hazards, but no one is talking about road maintenance due to weight.
This is all to repeat what I said above: it is too fucking complicated. That's why it didn't work. It's so much easier to buy a gas car, fill it up, and drive it.
