Beauty influencer shot dead during TikTok livestream at salon in Mexico

A social media influencer was shot to death while doing a TikTok livestream at a beauty salon in the central Mexican state of Jalisco, state authorities confirmed Wednesday.

The stark show of violence fueled shock in the Latin American nation at a time when rival cartels have fought bloody wars for territorial control in much of Mexico.

Valeria Márquez, 23, appeared to have been speaking to a delivery man off camera on her livestream Tuesday when she was shot once in the chest and once in the head and collapsed, dying instantly. The model and beauty influencer was inside a beauty salon in the municipality of Zapopan, the fringes of Guadalajara, when it happened.

Just a few hours later, a former congressman with the Mexican PRI party Luis Armando Córdova Díaz, was also shot dead in a cafe in the area.

Prosecutors in Jalisco were still investigating, but the New Generation Jalisco Cartel maintains firm control over the region. State authorities said they were investigating Márquez’s death as a possible femicide, an extreme case of gender-based violence common in Latin America where a woman is attacked due to her gender.

Márquez’s social media accounts have been flooded by comments mourning her and expressing shock.

How deep is the whole mexican influencer world with the cartels? Keep reading news about random internet people getting killed or having ties to them all the time.

Well the most famous case I guess, which directly involved CJNG, was El Pirata de Culiacan. Who was a youtuber/influencer who was basically famous for getting wasted on drugs and alcohol and making a fool of himself. Well, in one drunken rant he directly called out El Mencho and threw a bunch of insults his way. His 'friends' who filmed this, released the video publicly which was an absolute death sentence for him and sure enough, he got shot to pieces for this

But there is a long and storied culture of celebrities, especially musicians (There is an entire genre of music devoted to the cartels, called the Narcocorrido) having close associations with cartels or even being killed by the cartels. Many bands are paid by the cartels to write songs glorifying them, and they will also perform at cartel parties

In this case of this Tiktoker, it would not surprise me at all if she simply rejected the advances of a powerful narco (El Doble R is a very significant player, if he is involved). There have been many cases where women are killed, or kidnapped and held captive, just for rejecting cartel guys who want to bang them

Mexico actually just banned these songs, a fat lot of good it will do.

TOTAL.
CARTEL.
DEATH.

I do not care. No mercy. Any of them found in the US should be launched over the wall at 250mph and Mexico can clean up the impact craters. Fuck em.

She's kinda mid, though.

Cartel girlfriends/wives are generally pretty mid. They have a certain style/fashion and are called buchonas. Lots of expensive fashion and plastic surgery, but if you ask me it winds up making them look like troons more often than not. Often you see pics of them when they were younger or pre-cartel (As they often gain some celebrity) and they look decent, but they inevitably end up looking like this

^ Cartel dudes go WILD for these girls though (You have to remember many cartel guys come from poor farming backgrounds and spend much of their time watching fat Mexican dudes getting mutilated, so it's not like they have high standards)
