Gawker Media - Feat. Kotaku, Jezebel, and Friends

Didn't the concept of "repressed memory" get disproven, like, back in the 70s?

It had a brief resurgence in the early 90's too, but without the modern-day social media peanut gallery to coach it on, it died off quickly when they put the lead proponents of it on the talk-show circuit and the likes of Time and Newsweek tore it to shreds. (back when they actually researched shit instead of just saying "well, you can't say it DIDN'T happen!)

Does anyone still read the other Gawker sites? How are they doing?

I stopped reading io9. It used to have a small amount of originallity, but now it's just poorly written material they've harvested from other sites and with a strong SJW bent.

No joke, they actually get called out by their audience if they've messed up or glossed over details, which they then go and post "corrections" to the article. It's basically crowd sourced click bait .

Riiiiiiise, Gawker thread, riiiiiiiiiise....

AJ Daulerio, Gawker's former editor-in-chief and a co-defendant by name on the Hulk Hogan thing, tells Esquire a whole bunch that isn't nice.

The Daily Mail did their summarizing of the interview here.

Short version: he's gone from being a $400,000 editor-in-chief to a guy whose (almost non-existent) assets are frozen and is blaming Nick Denton for not basically being his fucking parent and making him go to rehab (because he was apparently regularly coked up while working that job). Oh, yes, and he suddenly has "recovered memories" of molestation as a child.

Couldn't happen to a nicer fellow. It's also lovely to see them eat each other now, although Denton's response to the interview so far was just to wish Daulerio well.

I appreciate that the author kept their tone neutral 'cause ain't no way can you paint a douchebag like that sympathetically.

Wait Gawker is still going I thought they were done or with the lawsuit ?

Gawker is dead. Kotaku and jezebel and that other tripe aren't.

The lawsuit didn't entirely kill it. Another company bought Gawker Media, peeled the Gawker brand off, and kept the rest of it pretty much as it was. Even Gawker's articles were still up last time I looked, save for a few that the new corporate overlords made them delete.

My guess is that there's money in running ads on all those shitty articles that social media will endlessly repost.

The best part is him acknowledging he immediately realized he destroyed his career and Gawker Media with the 4 year old's sex tape being off limits comment. Own it, motherfucker!

When Facebook users stop believing that sharing clickbait articles counts as supporting a cause.

Unlikely though. Sharing clickbait articles on Facebook has got to be the most energy efficient means of virtue signalling humanity has ever devised. Think of all the things we used to have to do, as a species, to prove we were "good people". Equitable sharing of communal goods, public prayers and flagellations, purchasing indulgences, participating in protests and rallies, etc. Now all we have to do to advertise the better angels of our nature is click a button and share an image of a starving/burnt/drowned brown child. It's as awe-inspiring as it is infuriating.

It's funny watching the sorting algorithm of who counts as "THE oppressed minority that we have to protect and cater to" shift. The black whinerbabies are gonna be fuckin' pissed when they realize they no longer have license to mock whoever they want anymore because the Muslims, illegal Mexicans, and trannies have all gotten sorted higher than them.
