Let's Sperg Marathon 2025 - Bungie's new AAAA Extraction shooter

You know, its a little sad seeing the state of things. I poured so many hours into D1 that I lost track. It wasn't until I got a PS5 that I knew the exact number since the console tells you. I skipped D2 because I was broke in 2017, but I always wanted another game I could waste hours on. Marathon looked like a promising return to weekend gaming. However, the genre, shitty artstyle, hero shooter, and overall corporate aspect of the whole thing makes it unappealing

Bungie, for God knows what reason, decided it would be a good idea to do a stream in the middle of this debacle.

It did not go well.

Same dead inside energy. Both different reasons, but same results. So is this going to be blamed on Sony pushing deadlines now that they want shit done on time? Or just oldfags past their game development prime who should’ve been kicked out for being lazy sacks of shit but couldn’t because they already kicked out a quarter of their staff and had to throw shit at the wall to see what sticks?

Ether way, I expect to hear a marathon was canceled article in the near future, cause even with this debacle, the game sucks. Theres nothing about it that’s entertaining, and the only positives I’ve heard were how bugless the game build is for being in an alpha state. Meanwhile, you got Embark working on Arc Raiders, and that game looks and plays infinity better then whatever Bungie has done in the same amount of time.

Why the fuck is this style used in every new futuristic game? Overwatch really did ruin gaming. Cyberpunk had a much nicer esthetic. I don't understand who this style appeals to.
I don't mind the aesthetic; the whole PS1 futurism thing going on could have work, just not for Marathon and something with more life in it.

Wipeout has a similar aesthetic, but they actually hired the originator of the style (The Designers Republic) to design everything from the ground up and this game designs' are still considered legendary today.
Instead Bungie chose to copy twitter troonslop instead of designing it from the ground up. Especially how it doesn't Marathon, which wasn't known for this kind of look. It should've been a new IP.

This game is gonna blow. Bungie fucking sucks today and is a shell of a once great company. All of their post Halo releases (2 games in 15 years) have been mediocre at best. Destiny 1 was a a copy of Warframe, just made as an FPS with looter shooter elements. PVP was fun to hop on for a few matches and some of the PVE stuff was alright. The story/lore was so convoluted and was horribly written I didn't even bother finishing it. Never bothered with Destiny 2 as I was tired of the game when it released and it my experience with Destiny 1 and all the DLC, it should have been F2P with all the shit slapped onto it. Wasn't surprised that D2 went free to play, and I sill am not bothered to check it out. Marathon looks hot garbage with the tranny art style. Bungie can not write a cohesive story or do any world building. Just the naming of "The Darkness" and all the dumb sound shit did not make me invested. Destiny's lore and world building is not even close to the old Halo games.

Really, the whole situation explains a lot about why Nu-Marathon looks and feels nothing like Marathon and why it was easy to dismiss it as slop: because the overall wider art style and direction wasn't Bungie's to begin with. They took a shitload of designs and graphics which, in isolation as standalone pieces, were generally great on their own merit, and then shovelled them wholesale into the same environment with zero coordination until the end result looked like a disjointed mess. Whichever way you look at it, it's disgraceful.
Wrong, it was clearly an original style based off Mirror's Edge, and you're blind if you're not seeing it. I am sure this is just a misunderstanding.
