Explosion at fertility clinic in Palm Springs, at least one dead

Emergency personnel are responding to an explosion near the American Reproductive Centers building in Palm Springs, California.
The incident has rattled homes and startled residents, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported. Some residents are reporting smoke and an odor, according to the outlet.
Palm Springs Police Department told the Desert Sun said the explosion at about 11 a.m. local time in downtown Palm Springs, which was felt as far as 2 miles away, appears to be a car explosion by the American Reproductive Centers clinic. Lt. William Hutchinson said that there appears to be at least one fatality.
"Everything is in question, whether this is an act of terrorism," he said on the scene.
Palm Springs Police and Fire crews are currently on the scene. The city of Palm Springs advised residents to stay away from the area so that emergency crews can work the incident.
According to it's website, American Reproductive Centers started in 2006 and is "Coachella Valley’s first and only full-service fertility center & IVF lab."

That said, I can see why somebody would blow up an abortion clinic but why the fuck would you want to blow up an IVF clinic? They're pretty much polar opposites. Unless it was some nutter who cracked up because a treatment didn't work and is going postal over it

There is a lot of domestic drama around IVF clinics. Legal battles over sperm and frozen embryos, who they belong too, etc… People also get very upset when things don’t go well and they don’t get a baby after paying $150k.

But this clinic in Palm Springs probably made more designer babies for gay men than any place in the world.

The locals from r/palmsprings are reporting it was a car bomb. Here's some snippets:
I was on site, at the explosion, within 60 seconds because the business I own is a block away. The black cloud of smoke rose at least 200-300 feet above street level. The explosion was that of a car in the parking lot behind the American Reproductive Center. The car was completely obliterated. The explosion ripped through the entire building housing the American Reproductive Center. Debris went all the way across Indian Canyon and down the driveway of Desert Regional. There are body parts in numerous areas including a half torso laying in the northbound lane of Palm Canyon Drive and a set of intestines in the parking area adjacent to the ARC. This is not hearsay, this was my direct observation. The adjacent liquor store has had all of its windows blown out on three sides and the interior is all blown over in the direction of the blast. There are car parts like fenders, engine parts and seat parts as far as two blocks in every direction. There will be plenty of pictures floating around...none from me...because it was inappropriate to take pictures. There were scores of people right there when the explosion happened and everybody was filming and taking pictures.The authorities will ultimately determine what happened and I caution everybody to wait and see. But...I will take a moment to encourage everyone including my fellow gay citizens who gather on Arenas, in the open, to exercise extreme caution just in case this was a domestic terror attack on a facility that was thought to be an abortion clinic but is in fact a fertility clinic that also serves LGBTQ couples. Until we know more...everybody has to assume that any motive is possible and act accordingly.

Going to hazard a guess and say it was some spurned client who either was denied as a candidate for IVF or suffered from health complications from IVF and is in major medical debt because of it. Even the most radical of anti-abortion adherents have an awareness about what IVF is and the eggs/embryos still considered as living beings and unless they really went off the deep end, they wouldn't be the sort to bomb IVF clinics.

Domestic drama over genetic materials or embryos or failure to produce a baby after spending large sums seems likely…

But…there is one religion that strongly opposes IVF, the Catholic Church. Militant conservative Catholics really oppose it. Babies must be conceived in the womb, not a Petri dish. I’d have to think IVF babies being made for gay men would be particularly odious to a militant religious person who thinks IVF is already subversion of god’s intent.

Basically that clinic was creating Frankenstein testube, science babies for sodomites in the eyes of a militant Catholic or religious person

I agree. Of course I can see the lone "pro-lifer" who's not a Catholic but is totally against family planning of any kind target the clinic.

Pour one out for the 11 Elon embryos lost today.

A militant Catholic schizo could see that clinic as a future army of unclean, ungodly abominations for sodomites. On the far end of the spectrum it’s believed IVF babies have no soul, and Nick Fuentes does lend some credence to that theory.

But there’s been lots of crazy domestic drama involving ownership over genetic materials stored at clinics. When a couple breaks up, who owns the frozen embryos? There’s been crazy cases after divorces where a woman seeks to use the embryos and the husband wants them destroyed.

Then you have the angry, hurt people who spend $100k and still don’t end up with a baby.

I wonder if the clinic has a good idea who might have been behind, given they know who has made threats, any particularly crazy or angry clients or couples locked in some legal battle over items they have frozen there.

that's very interesting, it means this is either propaganda of the deed and we should be hearing a manifesto and seeing more incidents soon, or, what I think is more likely along with @MirnaMinkoff, this is homo drama. someone wanted to prevent an ex from having something he wanted is my bet.

Weird coincidence but there was a big story today in the NYT about the Trump admin pushing to require insurers to cover IVF and other infertility treatments. This would be a big boon to an already ridiculously profitable industry.

The fertility industry is very, very lucrative and very unregulated industry. A Pajeet was running the one that got bombed. I wouldn’t rule out a disgruntled business partner.

This facilities print money. I can’t imagine how much one in Palm Springs would be raking in for all the wealthy gays who know a designer baby is the ultimate status symbol.

since they think abortion is SOOOoooooo wrong, then whoever damaged the materials in the clinic should be charged with multi child manslaughter, right? right guys?

you know how they want women to feel like murderers when they get an abortion, so this obviously qualifies as massive child manslaughter if that's the case. right right?
