Emergency personnel are responding to an explosion near the American Reproductive Centers building in Palm Springs, California.
The incident has rattled homes and startled residents, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported. Some residents are reporting smoke and an odor, according to the outlet.
Palm Springs Police Department told the Desert Sun said the explosion at about 11 a.m. local time in downtown Palm Springs, which was felt as far as 2 miles away, appears to be a car explosion by the American Reproductive Centers clinic. Lt. William Hutchinson said that there appears to be at least one fatality.
"Everything is in question, whether this is an act of terrorism," he said on the scene.
Palm Springs Police and Fire crews are currently on the scene. The city of Palm Springs advised residents to stay away from the area so that emergency crews can work the incident.
According to it's website, American Reproductive Centers started in 2006 and is "Coachella Valley’s first and only full-service fertility center & IVF lab."

This is from /pol/ so take it with a grain of salt, but this might be "Sophie" that's mentioned. The facts line up with what he said on the website, shot while sleeping.

Lars Eugene Nelson, 29, is arraigned on second-degree murder for the death of his 27-year-old girlfriend. Photographed at Pierce County Superior Court, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Tacoma.

A 27-year-old woman who was fatally shot in a Fox Island home has been identified.

Sophie Tinney died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head on April 20 near the 600 block of 8th Lane. Her manner of death was listed as a homicide, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lars Eugene Nelson, 29, was charged with second-degree murder for Tinney’s death. Nelson’s bail was set at $750,000 during his arraignment on April 22. Court records show he is out of custody on bond.

Nelson and Tinney were reportedly in a relationship prior to her death, according to charging documents. Prosecutors allege that the shooting may have been planned in advance and Tinney possibly convinced Nelson to shoot her as she slept.

Nelson’s next hearing is scheduled for May 19 at Pierce County Superior Court, records show.
Fox Island man who reported his girlfriend’s ‘suicide’ now charged with murder

Editor’s note: This story includes discussion of suicide.

A Fox Island man is accused of fatally shooting his 27-year-old girlfriend after reporting her death as a suicide over the weekend.

Prosecutors charged Lars Eugene Nelson, 29, with second-degree murder for the shooting that happened at his father’s property in the 800 block of Fox Drive on Sunday, according to charging documents.

Emotions ran high during Nelson’s arraignment at Pierce County Superior Court. The courtroom was nearly packed with members of the defendant’s and the woman’s families, who sat on separate sides of the aisle.

Deputy prosecuting attorney Dalton Smith alleged the shooting was planned several days in advance and that the victim might have convinced Nelson to shoot her as she slept.

A plea of not guilty was entered on Nelson’s behalf. Before Court Commissioner Barbara McInvaille set Nelson’s $750,000 bail, she heard from the woman’s father, who opposed the defendant having supervised release.

“Lars is a young man that we brought into our home for a good period of time. He lived in our home and we entrusted him with our daughter,” Mark Tinney, the victim’s father, said.

Tinney said his family’s only goal is to find out the facts of the incident and “let justice be done as it’s seen fit.”

“I don’t know what may have been going on in this young man’s mind, but he’s going to have to live with this, and I don’t wish it on anyone,” Tinney said.

Defense attorney Michael Stewart, argued for bail to be set at $500,000. Members of Nelson’s family, family friends and neighbors submitted letters of support for the defendant. Stewart said Nelson was not a flight risk or a danger to others.

Before McInvaille set the prosecution’s recommended bail, she said it was “one of the most tragic cases” that she has seen in her courtroom.

The victim’s name has not yet been released, pending confirmation from the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Charging details
Pierce County deputies were dispatched to a home after a call came in from a man at 5:30 a.m., later identified as Nelson, who reported that his girlfriend fatally shot herself. Charging documents show that when deputies arrived, Nelson invoked his Miranda rights. Deputies eventually became concerned about the woman’s manner of death.

When Nelson was arrested at 5:15 p.m., he allegedly “did not seem surprised,” documents show.

The victim was found in a bed , and there was “significant trauma” at the top of her head. A gun was found at the scene and it was reportedly registered to Nelson.

Detectives learned that about a week before the shooting, the woman’s friend reported twice that the victim made suicidal threats on an instant messaging site called Discord, documents show. She also mentioned that Nelson was her roommate.

The woman’s mother requested a welfare check on April 18, saying her daughter had been texting “suicidal ideations,” documents show. After the shooting, the woman’s parents told detectives details of their daughter’s mental health history and said her depression “spiraled” when she was a pre-teen. They also described Nelson and the woman’s relationship as “co-dependent.”

Her parents said the day before the welfare check was called in, the victim told her mother over the phone that Nelson “would help end her suffering,” documents show. Her parents said Nelson and their daughter might have had a “suicide pact.” They alleged that Nelson might have assisted their daughter in killing herself.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner reportedly discovered three gunshot wounds in the woman’s head and indicated to detectives her death would not be ruled a suicide, documents show.

Nelson does not have any previous criminal history, court records show. He remained in custody at the Pierce County Jail as of 4 p.m. Tuesday.

This story has been updated to correctly describe whose idea it allegedly was for Nelson to shoot the victim.

I FUCKING HATE these anti natalist faggots. They were cringey ENOUGH before bombing shit. They wan't death? They should get it freely for themselves, but these fucks wanting to ruin other peoples lives?

I really, REALLY hope I don't run into any of these fucks in the wild, but I almost HOPE I'd get the opportunity to see one in mortal peril and refuse to offer aid because "but didn't you say life sucked?"

I really think these fuckers are just emo BS gone way, way, way too far, and I'm trying, REALLY hard not to fed post about this.

Yeah, I've listened to the entire audio and this guy's huffing his own farts.

Congratulations, you figured out everyone dies! Life is suffering and being born inherently comes with traumas, wowie zowie.

It's pretty obvious this guy has no friends or anyone outside of the internet to give meaning to his miserable life.

Efilism is apparently an edgy Rationalist thing. Immediately makes me wonder if the culprit has any connections to or is similar to the Zizian cult people.
The subreddit describes it as such:
EFIL is Life spelt backwards. It is a form of Antinatalism that extends to all sentient life, created by the Youtube based Philosopher Inmendham in 2011. EFILism is the belief that DNA, and the suffering of sentient consciousness, is the greatest problem in the universe.

Here is an archived page of the Immendham Youtube channel that is referenced in the description. Relatively obscure but I guess he has very devoted supporters. Besides that here is an archive of an article on him.

Excerpts from the aforementioned article:
The YouTuber known as Gary “Inmendham”has tormented viewers since 2007, by uploading thousands of hostile, derangedvideos to that platform, making a bizarre philosophical case against the continuation of life on the basis of what he calls the preciousness of life.

YouTube is known mostly as a playground for cute, youngpeople to prance and preen, but the website is also part of the so-called IntellectualDark Web on which cynics and misanthropes proffer their subversivephilosophies.
He calls his philosophy “Efilism” (“Life” spelledbackwards), which indicates that his views are more extreme than antinatalism.Antinatalists say that having children is wrong, because the world is harsh andno one consents to being born, but the point of Efilism is that life generallyought to be reversed (like the word) or ended, which is to say destroyed.
“But if you follow Gary’s utilitarian logic, anything shortof supervillainous annihilation of all life should nevertheless be a cop-out for him.Suppose a cartoon supervillain like Thanos or Dr. Doom comes along and torturesand kills all creatures on Earth, fulfilling some ‘evil’ scheme. Add up all ofthat suffering the villain causes and compare it to the suffering that wouldhave occurred if all of those creatures would have gone on perpetuating somevariety of tortured species for perhaps hundreds of millions of years of future evolution, until perhapsthe sun dies and engulfs our planet. Obviously the latter quantity of pain mustbe orders of magnitude greater than the former one, so Gary’s grotesquephilosophy enjoins him to attempt to become a supervillain and to regard anypain he’d inflict as being for the greater good of terminating the very capacityto suffer.”

On the one hand, Gary affirms that life is precious: consciousnessis self-evidently good in that the feeling of being alive is what matters mostto all creatures; we typically defend ourselves because we prefer to live, andthat’s because we cherish our conscious states. On the other hand, Garybelittles life, reducing evolution to a squalid game and accusing everyone ofbeing mere bloodthirsty robots or vessels for their genes and of being stupid, insane, or evil precisely for preferring life to death.

“Gary’s Efilist philosophy is incoherent,” said PennilessSage, yet another of Inmendham’s critics. “If consciousness or the capacity tofeel is the only thing of value in the universe, which is allegedly whythe world is abominable for mindlessly subjecting conscious beings tohardships, how can the solution be to do the world’s work for it by ending alllife? If the ability to feel is so precious, how can one type of feeling, namely pain, be so bad as to outweigh the value of the continuation ofconscious life? And if pain is so bad that all life ought to end to preventmore of this dreaded mental state, how could pain be a form of that which ismost good, of the awareness of being alive? How can the capacity to feel ingeneral be good, but one type of feeling be overwhelmingly bad?”

Master Intellectual compares this to the theological problemof freewill. In the Christian tradition, God is supposed to allow suffering tooccur because ultimately suffering is a consequence of freewill, and thecreation of freedom is more important than the evil that ensues from some ofour choices.
But Gary maintains that all such moralistic interpretationsare cowardly fictions. Pain and pleasure, he says, have objective, inherentvalues: pain is always, forever bad and pleasure is obviously only good. Thecircumstances are irrelevant, he implies.
Said Miss Whitestone, “If a victim of a Nazi concentrationcamp manages to interpret his suffering in a way that makes him feel betterabout the experience, without resorting to self-deception or to psychoticdelusions, his suffering becomes a step in a process of personal growth. AsAristotle said, ethical value lies in an interpretation of the story of a wholelife, taking the full context into account, not just in some pseudo-calculationof isolated events. Generally speaking, natural life is a beautiful tragedy, not merely a pointless farce.

“For that matter, even if we agree with the environmentalist’scriticism of the so-called good life in Western culture, which is that this wayof life depends on unimaginable suffering we inflict on the animals weexterminate or enslave, or on slave labour in poorer countries, the anti-lifepessimist has no crystal ball showing that this suffering isn’t likewise astage in the process of our collective development as a species.

"We’ve beenbehaviourally modern only for around 50,000 years. Some species last formillions. And we had to figure out for ourselves how to make sense of ourintelligence and our self-awareness, our comparative freedom and creativity, sinceour emergence on the scene as clever mammals was partly an accident. So if westumble around and bang into things for some tens of thousands of years in ourcollective childhood, this barbarism might be compared to that of a child inits terrible twos. Who knows what kind of technological and moral progress we’recapable of hundreds of thousands of years hence? But Inmendham would cut the adventureshort, because he’s squeamish or something.

Inmendham responded by shrieking, “You stupid, evil cuntwith your ugly-ass nose and your retarded glasses! You’re a fat, ugly skank, your book-learning is fucking crap, and you’ll get what’s coming to you, asshole fuckwad,” before signing off and fleeing the debate.

Gary defends such obnoxious abuse by treating it as shocktherapy, as though he means only to rudely awaken his viewers since hisphilosophical message is horrific.

If his rhetoric is taken to the logical extreme then it can easily become a death cult. The man and his followers seem very much thread-worthy.

can anybody do anything with pictures of the car? is there anything identifiable visible?
I think that's only 2/3s or 1/2 of the car, and it looks to be upside down as that looks like a bumper lower down and the upper frame looking thing appears to be a sub-frame.

I think that's the front of the car for a few reasons:
1) Those look like CV axles just back of that lumpy thing between the frame bit which is visible. Most cars are FWD.
2) The best place to put a primitive (read, lower yield and thus higher volume required) explosive would be the trunk, and if the trunk blows it it is likely to send the front flying.
3) That lumpy bit between the frame bit looks about right to be the bottom of a FWD drive inline cylinder engine/transmission/oilpan mounted horizontally.

I could be wildly off about this as I'm only intimately familiar with the underside of mid-2000 Subarus and thus googled "bottom of a civic pictures" to get a rough estimate of what 3) might look like. The only thing I'm pretty damn sure of is that isn't a Subaru.

All this to say, if anyone has an intimate knowledge of what subframes and the bottom of horizontally mounted inline engines on FWD cars look like, that might be a very general line of inquiry.

Yeah, I've listened to the entire audio and this guy's huffing his own farts.
I hear him talk about how he felt angry that he "didn't consent" to be born, and him seriously believing that, and therefore thinking all other life should die. It reminds me of this thread I made which I got a bit of flak over, but I feel exonerated as fuck about now. Because some FAGGOT bombed people because of exactly what I was talking about.

Isn't that kind of the story of Nolan's Tenet? Guy's gonna die and thinks it's unfair so he decides to take the universe out with him with the time travel? I couldn't make any sense out of that plot but I think that was that jist.

Can someone please edit the Community Happenings post so it says "Efilism", and not "Elfism"?

Because I came into this thread thinking some batshit insane, antinatalist elf-larper was behind this, and was very disappointed.

hey @MirnaMinkoff you know who probably spent the weekend in palm springs right?
I have a hard time believing he’d be invited to hang out at someone’s PS house over the weekend, but stranger things have happened.

He’d definitely try to mooch a weekend stay there if he knew anyone with an empty sofa or bed but the gays usually give such accommodations to far more attractive or charismatic men.

What the fuck is Elfism? Like I like Frieren and Deedlit and Marcille as much as the next guy, but... what???

I like to think i’m not illiterate, but evidence to the contrary makes it harder to believe.
