According to Jim's Wikipedia article that's correct, but he left in November 2014 which was about 2 months after GG kicked off so I guess I've always just assumed that was why, because I remember The Escapist catching a lot of flack from the anti-GG crowd for allowing the GamerGate thread to stay up, since they''d successfully silenced the topic virtually everywhere else online.

I went back to Bing and the source is this article about Jim's net worth that was either written by a pajeet or AI because it's very bare bones and poorly written. It gives the image source as Reddit but no link to where it was actually posted, but here's a full-size version:

Personally I wouldn't swear to it either way. It looks like it could be a (very, very) old photo of Jim, but it could also be a fan cosplaying since the hat looks really cheap and the gloves are the wrong colour.

ETA: The website has a .ng domain which is apparently for Nigeria so it's the broken English of Shaniqua and not Sanjay. I do apologise.

It was mostly GG, he's admitted that multiple times. There were multiple reasons, which all boil down to that he was having issues being 'restricted' by his bosses in what he could say and hated having to do what they wanted him to do just because they were paying him. So when he realized his contract was almost up, they mutually agreed to let him go and he went off to do his own thing.

But really, the fact that he couldn't play hero for the Anti-Gamergate crowd was the biggest thorn in his side. But he could get away with his bullshit outside of Escapist because he knew where to draw the line while employed by them, and he was a big enough draw that he could get away with more shit. And then Moviebob tried that and got shit canned.
