We're at the end stage of western animation where the last bastion of greats from the early 2010s is being rebooted. I'm only in my 20s and I feel seriously fucking old right now.

Certainly came earlier than it did for my generation.

I'm torn between thinking some of your are being too negative/doomer even for me in this thread regaurding the state of western animation, and also agreeing with said sentiment.

I see your point in being so hopeless given what the last few years did to the industry and yet I know it won't do much, if any good to complain about it. Especially here. I doubt anyone from the industry lurks in the kiwi farms thread of all places for intell, but stranger things have happened.

Genndy Tartakovsky's next film Fixed is coming out later this year. It looks... interesting.

I'll never forget how when sausage party came out....a frigging decade ago. Seth Rogan said he hoped it would be the start of "a second animation Renaissance " for adult animation. Well between big mouth, Santa Inc, and foodtopia I can say that didn't go the way he hoped. But genndys fixed seems like it might potentially be closer to the idea of am "adult animation Renaissance " only a bit closer though.

Still don't get why his Popeye movie pitch never got picked up by anybody.
There was a leak for it that showed the film was not that good. It was a very stock-standard origin film that seemed to fall inline with many of the average cartoon revitalization films. Even if it was more on the mediocre side, it kind of seemed like it was for the best to be laid to rest.

Other than that, Popeye just really isn’t a big draw anymore. I also have to assume it is now a skinwalker IP where different studios take a hold of it. Only way anyone can explain that weird as fuck Nintendo Switch title.

By "second animation renassance" he meant we'd see things that could sit amongst films like Fight club, or No Country For Old men, or Bladerunner, right?
...right?
1. Overrated and has become the gospel of mgtow and incelldom
2....no arguments There
3. Also no arguments aside the long awaited sequel is not the "breath of fresh air" those who celebrate it say it is.

And no. He meant he'd hope to make more dumbass comedies LIKE sausage party and adult animated films would be essentially the low brow comedies he made his name with just in cartoon form.

We are in the darkest time for mainstream animation if Networks are trying to reheat their heavy hitters from the 2010s while we are in the mid 2020s and there are still NO decade defining shows to watch.
Regardless of quality, this is beyond depressing and more proof these studios need to get shuttered and somehow start anew with fresh talent (but make sure it's literally no one from Shitter/BlueShit or whatever shite trite people are glazing VaginaPop for).

This is the biggest problem I have with all this shit, though. These people consume and prop up the lowest brow slop that appeals to the same audiences as shit like family guy, and then get mad when people dont take animation "seriously". remember when the Oscars made a jab at animation, and everyone got upset? gay as they are, perhaps they have a point.

I dont need all my media to be constant intellectual snobbery, and I certainly dont need, nor even want, all my cartoons to be that shit either, but there barely exists any "mature" animation made by the western animation industry, in the way the aformentioned movies are "mature", whether you like those movies or not.
Maybe im just not the target audience, but call me a little dissapointed when I hear "adult animation" and I picture something like Sicario, or Come and See, or fucking breaking bad of all things, but animated, but instead I get "the same shit I've seen before with swearing and sex and drugs and seth rogan tier comedy". if thats what they think adult animation is then maybe they deserve to be made fun of.

Its like the industry collectively peaked at avatar narrative-wise and we've barely recovered since.

This feels like the start of an arg/creepypasta.

Adventure Time has already been revived - twice. Once with Distant Lands in 2020 then another time with Fionna and Cake in 2023. Hell, as stated previously, CN is already cooking up more content for the IP with a movie, a B.M.O. preschool spinoff and presumably another season of Fionna and Cake.
Fiona and Cake was such tranny slop. Adventure Time was a wonderful show for all its flaws, but a girlboss being molested by gays and a nigger cat had no emotional resonance at all. I skipped that shit.

I cannot fathom why those episodes are popular outside trannies who wish the show was about themselves (as a hot girl). The coolest thing about the show was Finn's aging and the way it took you through the stages of his adolescence, and how unapologetic-ally weird and surreal it got, while still being grounded in a mostly childish sense of humor.

Popeye isn't really big enough of a name to justify any big projects for the guy, even back when he was airing on Boomerang. The most relevant he's been in YEARS has been that one Death Battle episode.

...And this, I guess? You could have told me this was some teen's Itch.io project or some Wii shovelware from 2012, and I'd believe you.

Not gonna lie, I IMMEDIATELY dropped my interest in the show when they rewrote Fionna and Cake from Ice King's goofy fanfic to actually some kinda rogue universe, with Fiona being a #relatable girl from the real world, fuck that. I did like the Lich episode, though. Also, while it is admirable AT didn't hold back in how weird Finn's adolescence was as the only human around, that was genuinely the worst part of the series, I fucking HATED tuning into the show and having to wonder if I was gonna see a fun adventure in a colorful world, or see more bullshit about Finn going through puberty or being sad over PB or Flame Princess. (I'm still mad he almost got Ice King killed over some wet dreams)
Also the fact that Shermy and Beth made an appearance just makes me wonder why they didn't make the new series about THEM and OOO's future instead.

Yeah I saw the entire leaked animatic and...it leaves a lot to be desired. The movie is fun no doubt but offers nothing beyond the occasional chuckle. It would not stick with a kid much less a cynical jaded adult.

The incredible visuals and raw genius of Tom Kenny and Grey Griffin playing Popeye and Olive are wasted by the script's inability to have a coherent plot or focus on any one thing.

Popeye himself isn't a strongly defined character in his own origin story, which should really say something about how well all the other story elements fair. Characters just kind of announce their motivations between gags, it feels like they literally had to insert plot notes between tangents to meet a quota. Classic Popeye formula dictates that gags enhance scenes, but in this movie, scenes are tacked onto extended gags. There are some scenes which should write themselves but they are instead replaced by nonsense gags, Olive Oil ends up accompanying Popeye on his adventure not because she wants to ditch her wedding to Bluto, but because she literally sleep walked onto his boat.

Have you noticed how BAD the Tiny Toons and the Animaniacs remakes were? And we got worse from that. TBF, it all started with the plandemic being used as an excuse to make people crazier, no doubt things got worse.

I'm pretty sure the full Popeye animatic is literally in this thread or somewhere on the board, but yeah it is a VERY disappointing endeavor
SpongeBob Guy as Popeye is fun enough, but yeah it's a fucking ORIGIN story instead of "Popeye has a Popeye adventure"
Even being fair that it's literally less than a work print, it really kinda fucking sucks

I remember there being plenty of excitement over the Animaniacs reboot with a main focus on animeniacs and Benedict. There was also a freakout a the jab against Donald Trump, since the old Animaniacs satirised political figures, even Bill Clinton, a lot.
