My kid sister would treat our cattle like pets and give them cutesy names so we'd be eating dinner--steak, say, or hamburgers, and our mean but funny older brother would bite into it like he was doing a TV commercial and say, "Man, Bluebell (or Daffodil or whatever the fuck) sure is delicious!" and she'd storm away from the table in tears. Shit was hilarious. We scarred her for life.

Halal and Kosher meat require that the animal die by having its throat cut. That means that any form of stunning that would be fatal cannot be used. Consequently in the UK cattle are killed by a very sudden and penetrative bolt which instantly kills the animal, except for unfortunate occasions where it got misaligned. But cattle designated Halal get a much milder stun which is more like a taser or concussion. Then the animal is strung up still living and killed by having its throat slit and letting it die from blood loss.

The UK, which has some of the strongest animal welfare laws in the world to prevent unnecessary suffering, makes a special exception to those laws for medieval Islamic and Jewish practices.

Now, because several people have not being paying their taxes, I will make several payments on their behalf, and to lighten the mood a little.
