When Smollet got busted she tried to sneak him out the back door without repercussions like the prison time he was sentenced to. Only after people found out she was planning to cut him loose for staging a hate crime that became national news that somehow half the country believed and lost their shit over, was she taken off the case for lacking judgement. BTW justice totally prevailed. His conviction for staging the hate crime was overturned by the Illinois supreme court based on some technicality regarding a plea bargain. The civil suit the city of Chicago sued him for settled for 50K and the 50K is to go to a charity of his choice. They sued for 120K in resources wasted investigating the dumbest fucking hate crime story in the last decade. So at the end of the day I guess he ruined his career, probably spent his life savings on attorneys, ultimately served no prison time I am aware of and technically not convicted of staging a hate crime at least legally speaking.
