Doesn't this provide an unfair advantage to new studios, since the old ones are embroiled with acting unions and have potentially long term contracts that force them to continue to work with them, but new players can just never hire a single actor?

SAG-AFTRA does not have a monopoly on talented voice actors, and star power isn't that important in VA work as it is in live action acting, this isn't Japan and their seiyuu idol culture. They don't really have the power to gatekeep, and have little leverage unless you're already deep in a union production and they can call a strike to paralyze you, if you're just starting out, you can just avoid them. There's a large shift to hiring British actors for VA work, especially for videogame productions, just to avoid SAG-AFTRA specifically because they're a pain in the ass to deal with. It isn't even about labor rights since britbongs have more regulations than Americans.

A lot of unions allow and even covertly encourage this actually, flout union policy and get jobs in non-union projects, until a critical concentration of union members are necessary for operation and they can push and negotiate to flip it into a union project. What is a company going to do, recast voices for their live action game in the middle of its lifespan?

The answer is yes, because that's exactly what SAG-AFTRA tried to do to Mihoyo very recently, an explicitly non-union (and goddamn Chinese) project, that they put pressure on to try to force them to sign their interim media agreement, which among other demands would order all non-union VAs already employed to join SAG-AFTRA by force or be fired. Including firing all their foreign VAs because they can't join an AMERICAN union.
They tried to mask it as AI protection agreement, which is nonsense since Chinese legal precedent offers far more robust protection against AI voice cloning, and that's what the company is working under, they weren't allowed to use AI anyway. SAG-AFTRA representatives managed to annoy the fuck out of everyone so severely with misinterpreting their powergrab as an AI protection move that even reddit and xitter comments were calling them out.

Shaming will work on many (most?) people if it's perceived to be universal. If a guy talks to 10 different groups of people in a row and they all laugh at him for using a chatbot, he might at least stop talking about it (unless he's a turbo autist).

But you need a critical mass. They don't have that and they never will. Some ridiculously high number like 40% of young people already use ChatGPT, and the majority of people who don't use it are neutral or indifferent. So even if they try their hardest to shame users, they won't be part of the critical mass. They'll just be that lone weirdo who rants about AI until you cut off the conversation and start avoiding them.

The interesting part is that they just can't acknowledge this. I think they've become too mentally reliant on the idea of their brand of progressivism being popular and powerful and the way of the future. Right wingers, whatever their faults, are more at peace with being an embattled minority, and they can adapt to it even if they don't like it. These guys think they just have to use some kind of verbal cheat code and all the normie NPCs will activate and listen to them again.

I had a really nasty voice call with a bunch of people, and we had an argument regarding AI, with me being the sole proponent, however, all it took is one irate retard to cause a shift to being sympathetic toward my position and in the end it caused people to start to alienate the one irate retard because they just don't want to bring up anything to them anymore.

Right, and note that you guys were having an argument. Arguing against AI is fine. There are lots of bad sides to AI, and I do have respect for people who have concluded that they want nothing to do with it.

But like I said earlier, the only techniques familiar to these people ("these people" = the idiots I'm laughing at in the thread, not everyone who isn't pro-AI) is yelling at people and shaming them, or yelling at them while shaming them. Their "arguments," when they do use them, are all regurgitated slop from some other poster with identical beliefs; they have no capacity to actually defend these arguments. That would require stepping outside their bubble and "engaging with fascists" or whatever the fuck they're calling it these days.

So it sounds like the retard you mention wasn't arguing (like the other people) he was tard raging, because he's not used to a world where tard raging doesn't get him his way. A lot of people do not realize how batshit insane what people post on the internet is until it is spoken. That "We need to kill AI artists" memes sounds corny as fuck why people say it in real life, but people don't hesitate to say it on the internet. Lo and behold, as soon as they enter a real conversation and sperg out it occurs to them how obscene they sound to other people.
