Have You Ever Shoplifted?

My sister and I stole from the Scholastic book fair once. It wasn't because we didn't have the money, we were actually in line to pay for it. Class was about to start and I didn't want to be late so I just stuffed what I had into my backpack and left for class. My sister must've confessed to my mom later that day because she gently confronted me about it and I burst into tears and admitted it. That was the only time I ever stolen anything so far, though every now and then I do have thoughts about stealing something small and hiding it in my purse or "forgetting" to scan it.

I used to shop lift occasionally in malls as a pre-teen/young teen. One day on a grocery run I scored ~70 bucks of manga (I was a young teen, okay?) by going back and forth between the mall and mom's car - which I had the duplicate key for - with two manga stuck under each arms under my coat. I added up the sale value of what I took on the trip home and decided I had to stop, otherwise I'd end up in deep trouble eventually. I gave the manga to my local library after reading them, hoping they would complete the serie, but they never bothered to.

Never stolen since, I even go out of my way to pay what is due whenever I notice an error like the clerk failing to count an item.

Stealing over a certain age and over a certain income bracket is fucking dumb. If you're stealing to eat or function, valid. If you're stealing for the sake of stealing, fuck you. It's just such a pain in the ass to deal with when you're trying to fucking work at a grocery or drug store and you know you can barely do shit and still get punished with less hours and other restrictions anyway.

People who grow out of it are fine. People who do it for drugs get shat on for good reason. People who do it for a thrill need to pay the money my coworkers and I (or just my fucking coworkers) lost. I hate the company too, but the employees rely on it to pay their own way through life too.

I can't stop people from stealing and I don't mind* if people steal directly out of the wallets or houses of CEOs if they hate them or in other upper level areas, but on the low end? God damn. They're miserable enough as is. Ok I don't like it, but only because we need society to function. The dream is getting laws put in to dunk on large corporations or regin them in, the reality is the money makes the laws. Do what you feel, but don't feel like you have to if you don't feel it is right.

One time i was at 711 and took a lighter out of the display next to the register and put it on the counter with the shit i was buying. The guy didn't ring it up but I took it anyway
Yeah, I have felt bad when I realize that something hasn't rung up but I haven't gone back to demand to pay. I rationalize that the store is probably ahead, given how many times I have been overcharged.

I haven't shoplifted, but its not a moral consideration rather than practical: If I get caught and get banned from a store my grocery trip more than triples in lenght. Not worth the 1 euro canned goods. Besides, I live in the hood, the cashiers have eagle eyes.

I have a few shady friends who do steal all the time, and sometimes I benefit. Idk, I personally don't find it so funny, probably due to proximity, but my "normie" friends find it funny that my shady friends shoplifted vegetables and filled their pockets with potatoes and onions which I then made into a soup for them. And once my friend shoplifted 150 euro bottle of whiskey and I got my share. Didnt really taste different from Jack Daniels, but I felt really fancy.

Shrink losses get added too the average price, so prices rise for the people not stealing in order to pay for the people who are.

I find the argument that "lol, the corporation is still making money who cares" to be a false one. Because we live in a society friend. Does your one act of corporate sabotage matter in the grand scheme of things? Probably not. But it is still a crack in the armor that is a society where people follow the rules and a society where people do not.

Civilization and anarchy always dance on the edge of a knife. "Who cares" is the argument for Anarchy. But it is Anarchy grabbing the knifes edge assuming civilization isn't just as capable of grabbing it too.

After all, not all low trust societies are Somalia tier. In fact most low trust societies are not. In those societies people who cause problems tend to dissappear mysteriously, or get saddled with overly punitive and public punishments. Or after mysteriously disappearing come back hanging from a lamp post, dead in a ditch or singing the praises of our wonderful society.

Have a care cheering on the destruction of what you have for that cheap bit of consumer product

I've done it a few times on accident. However, I always returned to pay. Within the few times it's happened, there was a response of "we don't care," and I get "rewarded" with whatever item I had forgotten to pay for.

I wouldn't know if that's considered shoplifting. It was always something like an energy drink or bag of chips.

No because I am White. And I'm paranoid about the police kicking down my door for stealing some toothpaste or whatever.

I'm glad I'm in a third world country and if we catch you stealing fucking lipstick, expect this to be your punishment.

I have a system where I steal swag from the grocery store pretty much every time I go and "forget" to take stuff out of my reusable bags to put on the till. Fuck them, prices have sky rocketed and they're boasting annual record profits. I like to think I've saved quite a bit of money over the years.
I also go to places like Goodwill/thrift stores and if I find something I like and the price sucks I peel a sticker off something else with a better price and place it over the other one. They get free merchandise and have ridiculous prices 😒
Do either of these count as shoplifting? Maybe not lol
Lmao.

I was a cashier once and you're the worst kind of client, who the fuck you think you are to "steal because muh expensive", then don't buy it bitch, I'm soooo glad I made min wage per hour because my father had a heart attack and I had to quit my college to help my family and I had to look out for people like you because we're trying to keep our jobs during the entirety of the COVID bullshit.

I'm glad I had to risk being pepper sprayed or stabbed if I intervened people like you from "giving it to the man" because you think a pepper bottle or a orange fruit or a chocolate bar is too much, work harder to pay for it nigga!

"Ooh but the big evil corps make record profits", then fucking shoot the CEO then or car bomb their HQ, or set yourself on fire in the main lobby as a protest, you're only hurting the poor fuckers who work in the store, don't you dare use that to justify your niggerish behavior.

What pisses me off is that no one is shoplifting rice or beans, or a piece of bread, it's the luxury expensive stuff, the best cuts of beef, the imported Italian sauces, or if you work on a pharmacy it ain't Tylenol being taken, it's the luxury shampoo.

We live in a trust society, society is going to shit fast worldwide because people like you cut corners, and then use your brethren cutting corners as a justification for your actions, I'm glad you think saving 20$ worth of groceries is a price to pay for a less trustworthy society.

There's a reason we used to flog thieves and behead those who committed fraud, you ain't stealing a lipstick, you're fucking over the entire fucking system, it's people like you who jump over turnstiles in metros, so poor schmucks the entire city over have to either pay more or bail out the bankrupt bus or metro system, it's people like you who justify "because everyone does it lol" or "because evil powerful rich people do it" that throw thrash in the street making it stink and look horrible, it's people like you who break windows and do graffiti.

When you behave like a animal, and it's not even for hunger purposes, you should be treated as an animal, or at least on here laughed at.

I hope you get really assblasted by this, at least you will feel 1% of whatever poor fucker at goodwill or CVS has to feel when dealing with the likes of you because he or she needs to pay rent or their baby formula, so they take it up the ass everyday, and you certainly ain't helping them.
