Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

This makes no sense at all.
You picked one of two pre-written lines of text you get in return one of two predetermined voice lines. You over focus on narrative rewards in games.

Is mass effect 3 bad because of its ending not making a differnce and being unsatisfying or is it bad because its combat is shallow and boring and you feel unfulfilled wasting your time on lowest common denominator third person shooting?

If I have an option in a dialogue that implies some kind of action, choosing it should mean I take that action, not that the dialogue just keeps recycling me back to the same point over and over until I choose the action the developer prescribed. That's not a "narrative reward," that's just wasting my time with a head fake.

I have a hard time believing that you don't understand why someone would not like being offered the option to choose A or B, and upon choosing A, not like being told, "No! You must choose B!" before once again being told to choose, and does not see being permitted to read the denial text a meaningful consequence for his choice.

Just don't bother with the dialog tree at all, play a cutscene.

The “true ending”? That’s ez, it’s the one I like the most.
I disagree with having multiple endings, then the developer decides that THIS ending is canon to the series or lore. It invalidates what YOU chose in a sense. GTA IV's ending handled having multiple endings well.

Its not that I dont understand its that I dont care. You were given a choice between a normal line and a silly line and you chose the silly line which rewarded you with a silly response. You put more weight on a throwaway line than actual gameplay.

"True end" is generally the hardest to get. Im talking something like sonic with all emeralds or bloodborne with the extra tasks. It doesn't matter which ending in bloodborne is "canon".

Dead Rising 2 has a canon end "A" and a "True end" "S" for example. And the only reason it changed was because the dlc came out post launch and made it that way. That DLC is unplayable now so it doesn't matter anyway. S is the one you strive for since it requires the most work to achieve.

I just fucking ignore them.
Edit:
If I disagree with a decision in any sort of media I just start ignoring anything after the point where I’m done with it. For example, did you know Disney ran out of money when making the sequel trilogy and just made two movies?

You will never get anything close to resembling Mass Effect 1-2 levels of writing out of East Asian gamedevs.
That's the appeal :story:

It doesn't really invalidate it, especially if there's no sequel. If you like the ending then it's valid regardless of its canonicity.

I'm not even sure if this is an unpopular opinion. People who make ARG's should be shot. You aren't deep, you aren't an artist, you're an annoying faggot muddying up several mediums and often spreading misinformation to huff your own farts. ARG's have never been good, and never will be. It's even worse when these unoriginal faggots can't even come up with their own shit and just paste their gay nonsense all over an existing franchise.

I don't care how many shitty spectrogram images you hide in static that need to be converted to hex code and run through 8 decyption cyphers, turned into an enema, and sent to an agency in China on a tuesday to inspect, to get the message "mAyReEOh iZ EvIl!!!!111". Mario isn't scary, you are fucking gay, and your made up bullshit leeching off someone elses creations only comes across as a vanity project made exclusively by the most egotistical faggots imaginable.

You want a really good example of why people who make these should be executed for being such insufferable faggots? Look into the Trials Evolution ARG and the ultimate results of that. I have never seen a more egregious case of fart INHALING in my life.

I think there was a game with multiple paths that never materialized into a franchise. I'm thinking Alpha Protocol. Man, that game was garbage.

I remember having multiple romance options and I went with the busty redhead one and after EVERY other romance option DIES she told me she was Lesbian and not DTF.

For that thing alone the game deserves to not receive a sequel.
Cockblocked and blueballed lmao.

AP was a mixed bag. Some dialogue choices did matter and you could be a huge asshole to everyone, it had a few decent boss fights and levels that were fun to explore. Unfortunately, the balance was completely busted. Enemies on Hard become bullet sponges (especially the bosses) and your skills vary wildly in usefulness. For instance, there's one that makes you COMPLETELY invisible for about 30 seconds, but speccing in SMGs is pointless because they remain very inaccurate even at max level.

I might actually replay it someday, just not on Hard.

Well, GTA V confirmed Revenge ending is canon with that Jimmy's laptop if Michael is alive.
I think few franchises can do that, like TES with thw Wrap of the West thing.

2hu is a bullet hell game series. No idea how the fuck all of these retards came up with all of this slice of life shit and memes, then insisting that is the actual source material. There's next to no story to begin with in the ZUN games themselves.
How to tell me you've never played a Touhou game without telling me you've never played a Touhou game.

Thread Tax: Mario 64 is a dogshit platformer held up by nostalgia and being part of a beloved franchise. The only forgiveness one can grant it is that it was the early 3D era, so Nintendo didn't know any better, and I'm willing to meet you there. However, if you're going to sit there and tell me that it's this flawless masterpiece that's withstood the test of time, then you're just flat-out wrong.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most shittily designed games I've ever had the misfortune of playing. Without hyperbole, I've never, EVER seen a game that tried to push so much of a core gameplay element (combat, in this case) on the player and then used every single other system to discourage and punish him for daring to engage with it.

It's equally hard to believe that the devs were so incompetent that they didn't notice or that they're so retarded that this was the intended experience. The people who say "weapons break too fast" are just scratching the surface of its staggeringly stupid design decisions. The game is an eternal monument to the fact that Nintendo fans will hail any slop as a masterpiece so long as it says "Nintendo" on the box.

I feel that way with a lot of platformers from that era. Collect-a-thons are a horrible game design with having to search the world to collect stuff to progress.

Some are fun to me like the first 3 Spyro the Dragon games and Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. A good one makes you eager to find all the shiny shit in the world and progress to 100%. A bad one feels like an utter slog, made worse if the world has no artistic cohesion or immense technical faults.
