I can totally understand making him younger because you want him for another 15 years for a franchise.
However, in the 90's and even 2000's you would have no problem with finding dudes to play him that would look the part.

Now you don't have a young Ben Affleck.

I'm looking at 80's Dune and you had Chad Maclahlan vs Sting the rockstar.
New Dune has a twink vs a guy who looks like he should be in a remake of The Hills Have Eyes.

Also he was already in Jessica Jones, which is now canon again. I know some actors double-dip but he was too front and center as Killgrave to rebrand him as Reed.
They did try with Cottonmouth for Blade, tho. And Black Mariah did show up in Civil War as the dead kid's mom, but that's a small enough character that they got away with it.

Thing is, despite the box office, people seem to have enjoyed Thunderbolts. They don't trust their own product and they have no patience. A movie like that it's never gonna make the big numbers as Avengers, Spiderman, or even X-Men. They need to get more realistic expectations.

And, FYI, F4 is also having reshoots.

This is the same thing with comics, they can't just stick to their own plan and that's much worse than having just an unpopular storyline because the changes feel rushed and out of place.

At this rate, just destroy the whole thing and start all over.

It's the usual shit with Hollywood these days. If a movie does good, more films have to be like it.

Guardians of the Galaxy made a lot of money? Clearly, all superhero movies need to have the heroes be bantering misfits.

Into the Spider-Verse made a lot of money? Clearly, all superhero movies need to have the multiverse play a role in the story.

No Way Home made a lot of money? Clearly, all superhero movies need to remind audiences of older superhero movies they could be watching.

The return of Robert Downy Jr plus the return of the old X-Men actors feels like a sign that this movie is going to suck. Makes me feel that they are banking fully on nostalgia making this movie sell as if they don't have any faith in the rest of the product. The last time Disney tried to sell movies based solely off of nostalgia we got the Star Wars sequels and we all know how well that went.

Nostalgia bait is the movie equivalent of Jeb Bush saying "Please clap."

F4 has a chance to do well due to Pascal, but it also has the same chance to crash due to Pascal as well.

Movie's out in two months and he's picking fights with JKR because he's a moron. I think he's toned down a bit saying he just wants people to be safe and makes me wonder if he's been given the order from the Mouse to not make another Snow White out of the situation.

He's already shit-talked Trump and gotten his co-star fired. This is nothing new.

As to David Tennant as Reed Richards, just no. Even worse casting than Pedro Pascal. Yes, Tenant has played a "genius scientist" type in the Doctor, but Richards is also an action hero. Can you see David Tenant in spandex? Oh, gods, I just pictured that... Now I can't unsee it.

Nobody cares about these people, it's the truth.

It's true. The F4 are good caricatures, distinct and usable in a lot of stories. Smart guy, clever wife, hothead action guy, strong action guy. But they're not usually interesting enough as living characters. They don't really grow or change, they just act their part in whatever story they're in.

What people like from their lore is Doom, Surfer and Galactus

I think the F4 need an interesting world to be active in, because they're relatively shallow. They're well-designed, with the team dynamic you can drop them into any conflict and have them play a part. But without an interesting villain, scenario, or new world to deal with, they're just kind of... there. They aren't a memorable part of anything in the comics, they just sort of show up.

and they already fucked up the Surfer by making him a mid woman, not even a hot one like in the comic books.

The MCU started its decline when it began integrating the worst ideas of post-2000s comics (Captain Marvel, She-Thor, the many subversions of Cap, America Chavez, Ironheart, etc). But it took a nose dive when it started taking those ideas and making them even worse. (She-Hulk, Shuri, Secret Invasion, constant race- and gender-swapping, incessant pop culture references, and whatever the hell they're doing with Ant-man).

There's only 2 actual bits of FF character work I can remember off hand - Johnny being a dumbass and fucking Doom's fiancée before they got married (and thus nulling Doom deciding to move on from fucking with them/mostly Reed), and the Thing deciding to fuck off into the mountains during Civil War 1 rather than deal with it.

Doctor Doom might be Marvels Batman in terms of "He can do anything because He's DOOM!" but he's by far the best part about FF Lore. Beyond Doom though, their villains are Galactus, who's more a force of nature than anything else, various multiverse threats when that's a dead idea, or stupid shit like Mole Man. I don't think there's ANY level of fan goodwill that'd let them make Mole Man a credible villain (ok, MAYBE casting Danny DeVito), but beyond Doom and Galactus the villains the FF deal with are either D-List or Multiverse Shit, not exactly what you could use for multiple movies.

Johnny is another case where the guy is an eternal casanova who just fucks any hole but he also is doomed to not having long stable relationships with anyone by the writers.

The best version of Johnny was when he became a gladiator in the negative zone and his future self gains blue colored flames. But the writers regressed all that back.

My understanding is that they are based on the 4 elements that was also used in the avatar show.

As far as comics go, they were part of the main build up events in Secret Wars. And also played a role in the first Civil War comic.

I would say post Secret Wars, they been pretty much sidelined from Krakoa and the second Civil War comic rehash and everything else.
