It depends a lot on the subreddit and the topic being discussed. R/Europe for instance used to be very anti-racism, but mention gypsies or refugees nowadays and shit hits the fan. And "RuZZian orcs" are another topic that could put your average 1930s-40s German to shame on the main subreddits.You know, I don't know what subs you guys hang out on but I've actually seen redditors get pretty racist with very little pushback. Reddit is protective of trannies and white liberals, not so much anyone else.
As long as something is not considered explicably racist and wrongthink by the American mainstream media, it's free game. You even start to see upvoted anti-troon posts on the non-tranny subreddits now as the media started shifting the Overton window on that specific matter.
Or in other words, the whole site is just full of NPCs, bots and shills parroting the current thing.
