/horror/ general megathread - Let's talk about movies and shit.

Soon to be an original series on one of those "TV channels" that play celebrity news and such on the little gas pump screens at some service stations.
I'd watch that with a doritos logo in the corner a shitload more than Maria Maneudos talking about whatever the fuck

the more I think about it my main gas station has that Maria bullshits and I walk away from the pump like, a good couple of yards just to get away
The Sleepwalkers microseries I would literally make cams of while filling up to make sure I got them all

Saw a few horror movies that came out this year over the past few months

Companion - Honestly I'm unsure if it counts, but it was marketed as a horror movie and has elements of one. It's a bit on the nose but its an interesting science fiction concept.

Sinners - I know its kinda derivative of other movies but I had fun with this one, but the Irish Vampire really carries it for me since I found him hilarious.

Final Destination 6 - Feels almost typical for a 2020s horror sequel to an old franchise, but the deaths were pretty funny especially with the opening premonition, and also pennies. Tony Todd did pretty great for his final performance.

Companion had a solid concept that had me interested but it was so hard for me to like this movie, which ultimately I don't like it. Like you said, it's on the nose to the point of too much cringe, the gay couple comic relief and the hecking evil Russian guy was too much for me to take seriously. The plot that unraveled from the Russian guy was beyond retarded and pretty much ruined the film at a certain point anyway.
The plot with the main character modifying his sex bot to be able to hurt people so he could have her kill the Russian guy to rob him was so fucking stupid it blasted me out of the movie. At first I had guessed that the guy modified her like that because he likes to get spanked in bed or some other kind of degenerate bullshit like that, I would have really preferred that because it would have been the only thing that's actually funny in the movie. It's also a very believable situation for this character to be in, I could easily see myself in the future reading an article on the farms about some coomer modifying his robot to smack him around in bed and accidentally getting someone killed. It's much more believable and fun than some convoluted and dumbass robbery murder plan.

I happened to think it was neat

Finally got around to watching Don't Breathe. It's more a thriller than a horror movie imo (at least until the final act, when the turkey baster comes out). Kinda dumb, plenty of opportunities for the characters to escape or jump the old guy, but it had some neat scenes. There's a sequel where this sexpest is apparently an antihero and I'm very curious to see what that's like.

Watched Sinners. It was fine but is not nearly as good as the reviews would have you believe. Really just a rehash of From Dusk Til Dawn, but far less time spent on the vampires.

The biggest issue is, the vampire shit happens closer to the final act rather than what should be the midway point of the movie. One character makes a really dumb decision which felt was only made to get to the end quicker. This really undercuts any suspense, horror or even fun the later parts could have had, which is a real shame because Jack O'Connell, who plays the lead vampire, is a stand-out in the movie.

Speaking of Jack O'Connell, he talks about turning the KKK into vampires, and the movie states that Michael B Jordan's character was allowed to buy the barn he set up as a club because it was a trap, and the KKK planned to use it as a kill box for everyone there. However, instead of getting KKK vs vampires, the KKK, for some reason, don't show up until the morning, instead at night when people would actually be at the club, so the movie ends with Michael B Jordan going Rambo on them instead.

The intro of the movie is also pointless. It spoils the fate of one character, and is made redundant when it is repeated later on. Removing that would have cut nearly 5 minutes from the run time, and helped a lot with pacing.

Also a painful musical bit in the movie, which just took me out of the movie with out out of place and up it's own ass it was.

Visually the movie is pretty good, was shot on a mix of 65mm and iMAX, and used real sets and locations. Pretty hard to believe it came from the same person who did the visual mess of Black Panther.

I watched Lake Mungo after hearing people hype it for years and it was disappointing. It's not scary, just boring and kind of sad.
I found Lake Mungo really depressing and disturbing, and not in a fun way. I wanted a spooky ghost movie not a 16-year-old being sexually abused by her neighbors and killing herself.

Sequel was shit.

I wish it had been clearer if she drowned herself, one of the neighbors killed her, if her sexpest brother killed her, or if it was an accident.
