Say what you want about bronies but none of them actually demanded you take them seriously. Every time I made fun of one they just laughed at me instead of calling the server admin or attempting to rally the server to vote kick me and then complaining on Reddit about it.

it says right there in the deign philosophy why they made him black.
its not like the had a check list requiring one black character, they thought of a class first and then made a character surrounding that and worked backwards to create what he looked like afterwards, him being black is the last thing they thought of when making him not the first

I have read, and "the cliche" here was basically, and subconsciously, that he was too white and scottish.

This was Gabe "Believer of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy" Newell single-handedly pulling Coach out of "Song of the South".
This may seem logical because L4D2 was set in Louisiana, however the very fact that it was set in that state was due to Gabe spending millions of dollars on a videogame inspired by southern writers like William Faulkner and Margaret Mitchell.
It wasn't working out, for various reasons, but they salvaged the project by porting over Left 4 Dead to this southern setting.
It was a different time.
