I was wondering how this could possibly happen, and I recently ran across a plausible explanation.

For all their vaunted controls, CCP only has a few points of official contact with citizens before they enter the workforce and start paying taxes. It’s first vaccination for babies, and then entering primary school.

The subnational governments (provinces?) rely on subsidies from the national government for funding, and they get paid for vaccinations and primary school enrolments.

So in the 90s and 2000s, local officials and doctors were padding their budgets by claiming vaccinations and schoolchildren who didn’t exist. And the national government actually wasn’t aware of the scale of the fraud until these nonexistent children “grew up” and were expected to join the workforce starting in the early 2020s- and they just weren’t there. And it turned out to be a LOT of Chinese babies who never existed.

The CCP just stopped publishing a whole bunch of economic numbers over the last few years. You know it’s a sign of a super good economy when you can’t even make up commie lies anymore.

This is normal, it's a tactic the left uses called "It's never enough."

A similar and related thing we see with the social justice lynch mobs -- the "virtue spiral." See, you don't get credit for being just as anti-racist as everyone else. You have to be MORE anti-racist to get clout and asspats. So this is why you see them call out people and situations and activist all over people -- they want to stand out from the crowd. But the crowd simply moves forward to meet them -- remember, they literally can't understand the idea of going too far, and they're all social media clout chasers -- which changes the status quo. This repeats until you start seeing Antifa types setting off pipe bombs (should be starting sometime this summer if history repeats) "for the cause."

The really odd element of this is that it occurs just as the Democratic Party completely takes itself off of the traditional political spectrum. There is no real 'left wing' party in America. The Democratic party is basically a politically dysfunctional cult that people belong to irrespective of their socioeconomic status. You have business magnates, school teachers, Ivy League professors, and dirt poor baristas collectively hallucinating about Putin stalking Hillary Clinton like a Bond Villain, chuds hunting down trans children and lynching them, and black people being butchered like hogs by white cops. In Philly the recent mayoral elections saw this come to a head - you had a law and order classic corrupt black Democrat woman get elected by the ghetto while using almost Trumpian tactics and rhetoric about cleaning the city up and getting rid of crime and the homeless, while trust fund brats and crusty hipsters both screeched at the black people that they should have elected some useless woke Asian cunt.

The only two surviving elements of Democrat politics are visceral racial tribalism and this bizarro-world Manson cult that most of the white people and some of the minorities are wrapped up in. The cultist element controls a lot of the party and media apparatus, frames themselves as 'the left', and demand constant ideological purity from the party at large. All the while, their main animus seems to be towards anyone who interacts with the real world and doesn't have the luxury of living in their fantasy universe, which includes pretty much the entire actual 'working class'. The ethnic groups are increasingly disillusioned and are failing to see how this arrangement benefits them.

it's simple. Coal and oil and nuclear are designed to work.

The perfect example of how load-bearing certain things are in Windows is how your Internet Explorer version was tied to your Windows version due to how Internet Explorer was the code Windows used to understand HTML at all. My brother decided to go completely away from IE and removed it as a Windows Feature. Then he started having weird issues, for instance clicking a link in an email did absolutely nothing. Without IE, Windows couldn't even allow Chrome/Firefox to open those links instead - it just didn't have any idea what it was supposed to do. The spaghetti code relies on the fact that all the spaghettis are touching all the time, and taking out one strand means all kinds of weird shit breaks.

I'm sure it's the exact same thing these days, only with Edge.

I have always given infinitely more creed to the idea that powers that be knew of the possibility of 9-11 but did nothing to prevent it because it would dramatically change the landscape of society in a way that benefited government agency. As the years pass, less and less people in places like this were even alive back then, let alone of an age where they were politically aware and seem to have no concept of just how large of a tectonic shift that was.
