I also wanted to add, it's unavoidable, at least on the internet. It's even worse if you're younger because I notice that the older a fan community's audience is on the internet, the less likely it will have porn. A lot of indie projects popular with kids like Murder Drones or The Amazing Digital Circus are absolutely overflowing with this corrosive shit. If you're on Twitter, a site that is available to teenagers, the censors are so laughably bad that you'll probably see porn without even seeking it out if you're in these communities. In an age where children are taught that they should seek justice from an authority rather than their own hands, they'll blame algorithms for their shortcomings and won't go out of their way to quit Twitter or try and curate their internet experience to solve the problem.

It's also worse if you don't already have a social structure outside of the internet. For many kids online, it's their only place to exist, maybe because their parents emotionally abuse or neglect them and they get bullied at school, so really they only have the other "15 year olds" behind the screen. It makes them even more dependent on the internet to stay sane, the same place that is constantly finding ways to trigger a relapse back into porn addiction by constantly showing them cropped porn as a "joke" if they are trying to quit.

Drawfag here... you're pulling those numbers out of your ass. Just the ability of being able to draw porn does not guarantee you a paycheck bigger than doctors and scientists. Especially with commissions. You need to understand that people don't commission artists solely based on their artistic skill, its ENTIRELY based on how popular that artist is and if they have a good cult of personality. Developing an audience takes a lot of time, and if you're not careful, will be at the cost of your mental sanity, and your artistic skill.

You see, almost all of your skill as a visual artist comes from what goals you set for yourself and why, also known as your mindset. This goes for anything, really. Academics, sports, or life itself. If you take setbacks personally, like drawing badly one time, you won't grow into a good artist. That's why it's important to find somewhere where you're a big fish in a small pond to nurture your ego. Find something you're good at in art... even if you're actually bad at it. For example, Pewdiepie is very good at copy pasting the same chinkslop anime art, which will impress normies, but to other artists it's clear he lacks in many departments. He doesn't know how to construct forms, draw hands, draw fullbodies, or know how to compose an illustration. Non-artists don't care because they aren't artists, and as a result won't see these areas that he lacks in. They don't care if you don't know what you're doing, as long as you make something nice looking, it's a-okay to them. This is a big reason as to why Ai is constantly gassed up as "LE FUTURE OF ART!!!" by people who don't know what artists do and why. Ask any of the people heading these AI companies about character reference sheets, style guides (ffs, even Family Guy has a style guide), overshoots, squash and stretch, easing in or easing out (And by extension, timing charts) and they'll look at you like you're speaking Chinese. As a budding artist, take advantage of that fact and make art that has glaring mistakes to you, because most people will not notice. This is also the reason why experienced artists tell you to not zoom in on your art while drawing because nobody is checking if the individual leaves you drew in the background are actually there.

In the end, being a good artists hinges on how you answer these three questions.

-How do much you draw?
-How do you draw?
-What do you draw for?

Good artists draw as much as they can, draw by focusing on their weak points or outside of their comfort zone, and draw mostly for themselves, because normie expectations are already very low.

Keeping this in mind, being an artist on social media can hinder your progress, especially if your audience is people over in the west. The East has a very big perfectionist mindset which reflects in the crop that floats to the top in those spheres. However, westerners are much more forgiving of mistakes, so you will begin drawing for very low expectations and instead for connection. You will begin answering questions like "Does this artwork agree with my political beliefs?" "Does it represent the fandom that I'm in?" or "Does it feature cute animals or sexy women?" with your art. As a result, your art becomes worse as all of those questions can be fulfilled by art that doesn't hinge on artistic skill.

To make money as an artist, let alone a porn artist, you need an audience. To cultivate an audience for that, having morals and a soul is an impediment because no sane person wants to draw furry inflation art. If you're not drawing for fun, it shows in the quality of your art, and will decrease your margins, so ultimately you will learn to revel in the fact that pornography will become your life like Minus8 or Shadman. You also mentioned how your friend started feeling better after getting a normal job. This is because you will eventually have to draw disgusting fetishes for food, which is objectively more mentally damaging than sitting in a cubicle for money.

"I spent 6 hours on this piece, where are the likes!?", then someone does a funny doodle poking fun at general social tropes in the furry fandom and it hits 5k likes cause everyone can relate. Artists really are piss poor at marketing themselves let alone driving their finances. They love talking about "industry prices" yet don't offer anything the industry does; working 5-6 days a week, realistic prices, transparency, working on demand, professionalism. Rather than artists trying to lower their prices to snipe commissions, they push each other up. "Nooo babe, you don't get any commissioners but keep raising your prices! Your dick veins are so good! To me, being on the artist's journey must be thrilling. Work part time in the library cafe, draw 3-4 hours a day, schedule posts, hit the trends, go for the memes, be varied. But of course, those who pursue being an artist are usually mentally stunted and want only to be 'that cool artist guy', while the cool artist guy just draws for himself and became popular because of it.
