A Top Gear producer has been banned from driving after exceeding a 20mph limit by 4mph.

Andy Wilman was banned for six months after he was handed his fourth speeding conviction in three years.

The 62-year-old helped reboot the long-running TV show in 2002 and later launched The Grand Tour with presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

He was caught driving his grey Porsche Macan above the speed limit on The Avenue running through Clapham Common in south London on December 23 last year.

He was disqualified for six months after accumulating 12 points on his licence.

Sarah Will, prosecuting, told Lavender Hill magistrates’ court: “The very simple facts are that on December 23 at 9.08am a speed camera was triggered by a Porsche Macan on the A205 road, on The Avenue near Windmill Drive.

“This road was subject to a 20mph speed limit – the speed camera was triggered by the vehicle doing 24mph.”

His earlier offences, which each earned him three penalty points, occurred on January 5 2022, September 5 2023 and September 29 2024, the court heard.

Wilman, from Wandsworth, admitted exceeding a 20mph speed limit.

Magistrate John Tomkins said: “We have heard facts from the prosecutor – because you’ve pleaded guilty to this offence a further three points has been added to your licence.

“As a starting point the magistrates will have to disqualify you from driving for a minimum of six months.”

Asked whether he wanted to provide evidence of “exceptional hardship” as a means to contest his disqualification Wilman replied: “No, I couldn’t claim that. I accept things as they are, 20mph is a tough one, but you must have heard that many times – but yes, it is as it is, I have nothing to query or challenge.”

After confirming his yearly income was £443,000 after tax, Wilman was ordered to pay £1,042 in total, including a £666 fine, £266 surcharge and costs of £110.

The former Grand Tour executive thanked magistrates before leaving court.

Wilman is now working on Clarkson’s Farm in the Cotswolds.

The fact you could be punished for a less than 10KM speed limit difference is the real crime.
Not just a fine or something (which is a bit more understandable) but 6 months banned from driving is very steep.
Looks like he might have had previous driving infractions though.

Probably also for driving 4 mph over the limit.
Oh absolutely, these nigger tier Cops will just fine you for the littlest things. Probably have quotas for fines they need to meet.
The fact they have road speed limits under 25mph is just as retarded.
I decided to look at this road on Google Maps. For some strange reason they built a major A road in the middle of a park.

A low speed limit here is pretty reasonable. Also looks really busy looking at the street view.

It seems like British roads are maliciously engineered in ways that can’t be justified with their age alone.

20 is crazy low though. There’s a sidewalk. 25 is fine.

His other tickets were probably much worse, if I had to guess.
It was probably 25 in the past, then lowered to 20 at some point to collect speeding tickets. A tale as old as time.
The street view for the road only shows the 20mph signs in the latest 2024 street view.
Going back even to 2023 shows no speed limit sign, so I suspect my theory is correct.

People complaining, its the second line you retards. He picked up too many speeding tickets.

Also, its a 20mph, which is only used outside schools and those ones tend to be enforced. You can still do like 110mph on the motorway at night time if you just slow down for the odd camera near cities.

Half of London is a 20 mph zone because the mayor is an anti-car lunatic.
haha, really? I never go because its the pits of hell. Up North its only 20 outside schools. Every where else its as fast as you dare navigate the potholes.
