Nothing more annoying than an American who comes back from Europe and acts like they have been enlightened when they only lived in one or two cities, and believes they belong there. They also ignore the fact that most Europeans find the "good American" annoying as well and they get treated as "that one American." As much I wish I was able to study abroad in other countries before the initial lockdowns, and then my second study abroad attempt being canceled because of the variants, I knew these places weren't paradises, Asia or Europe.

Many of those city and state subreddits are well known and even mocked that they don't represent the city or state, they are in. A good portion of them aren't from the state or city as well. It's pretty amusing to see how they think their policies are popular, and their candidates will win (see anytime they upload a poll or anything involving elections), before getting shocked that their candidates and policies lose. Even then, if they are from the area, they aren't really the type who go out.

The more obvious thing to note is that if a city lacks infrastructure for cyclists/pedestrians it's obviously a failure on city planning/administration/population, but if a city lacks infrastructure for larger vehicles it's YOUR fault.

But let's talk about parks--parks are merely seen by bugmen as means to an end. The "SimCity brain" thinks that a few squares are parkland are basically ways to enhance bughives and reduce crime/increase land value/increase health, in reality they're probably more of a reflection of the areas around them. In better neighborhoods it's a place for mothers to take their children for healthy outdoor activities, but in other places it's basically an open-air drug market and/or squatter camp

To expand on your point here, I see this happen live where I'm at. One park is in the center of town, next to the third busiest street, in the middle of some decent houses, a church across the way, down the street from an elementary school and up the street from the correctional facility and the courthouse. This park is lovely, has people visiting all the time, has a small sheltered area that's routinely used for birthday parties and other public events. Its also where my weekly swordfighting group meets up, and while we occasionally have a cop car pass by, not once have they ever stopped to come talk to us despite occasionally using real steel weapons.

Another park that's about a five minute drive away is in a poorer part of town, surrounded by things like a landfill, a FedEx truck depot, and a hospital. Now while it isn't bad, I don't see nearly as many people out there at that park, despite it being bigger and having more expanded play places for kids. And I can guarantee you, if my group met out there, we'd have cops every week asking us what the fuck.

It isn't just parks, but public parks are a good barometer for the area around it. Despite what every city builder will tell you, you can't plop one in the middle of the slums and expect it to be a super positive force all on its own.

This is so true. I've been to literally dirt poor parks (think a empty dirt field with some half-buried tractor tires as "play equipment" that were lively and filled with families and fun; and I've seen multi-million dollar "play experiences" that were entirely niggerfied. It's not a poverty thing, it's a person thing.

What's with the 1000/month car payment these dingdongs always bring up? Yeah some people are getting absolutely bent over on a used BMW from a buy-here pay-here lot, but it's not the standard. Most people either pay off their car loans or lease and get a new car every four years. On the other hand, that 1400 USD rent on the tiny bugman apartment off an alley in NYC is FOREVER, even as it falls down around you.
