The most contentious parts of the Patriot Act, such as bulk data collection with warrants, did expire in March of 2020. The 2015 Freedom act also limited the scope of the agencies in what they could get without permission and limited much of the more privacy-violating aspects to just purely the NSA, so not every agency can wiggle their fingers in the data-pot. The most egregious aspect of all this data collection in my view — PRISM — was not renewed by congress after it got a 5 year extension in 2013. Finding the actual specific and most violating parts of the bill that are still active and subsequent under-the-hood privacy protections that somehow get rolled into the extensions is a ball ache and just becomes too tedious after 2019, but it's likely not the worst but also not the best.

Anyway, from what I see in the article, Foundry is being pushed in all these various agencies and from what I can tell it functions like Google Drive except shared and not accessible from the internet. It may help prevent leaks, or help make them more frequent and devastating depending on whether or not you can tell who accessed what data at a given time. The main issue I can see would be if it enabled the sharing of specific data or records without the need for permission/communication between the agencies and bodies holding that specific data or not, and whether it compiles it all automatically. It won't reveal more to the government than it already has on you but it could make it harder for specific individuals to fall through the cracks for some reason or other. Some other points of contention I can see are the involvement of a private company in so delicate a process at all and whether the government being able to collate all the information it already has on you in one place matters or not.

Palantir also seem like colossal faggots from their whole branding and presentation.

I don't hate Trump. I don't respect him, I never have. I don't respect the people who fanatically support him either. I hold them in contempt, they're an inconvenience, like a fucking mosquito that buzzes in your ear at night that you just can't seem to locate or swat, or Mormons who knock on your door Sunday morning when you're nursing a hangover.

The best I can some up this whole Trump and MAGA thing is disappointment. The USA is a nation capable of great things, and when I've travelled there I've met genuine and earnest people everywhere I went. But the U.S, since the mid 90s politically and on the world stage has been regressing; it has become a nation where the genuinely exceptional are too timid to speak and act whilst the truly abyssmal are way too confident, opinionated and take up way too much time and space in public discourse. It is like if a child hood friend became a drug addict and made poor decision after poor decision. You never truly hate that friend, but you do have a mix of contempt, disgust, pity and disappointment.

I know the feeling.

In my autistic view, I don't hate trump, at least no more than any Indian scammer. He is more of a symptom. The root of the problem is the fact that people have been wanting to buy the authotarianism he's been selling, God knows for how long.
