Jesus, there's a name I haven't heard in years. Kate Nash hasn't been relevant since the early 2000s, and even then she was just Tesco Value Lily Allen. I'm so glad she's decided to nail her colours to the mast, though, as it's vitally important that such a big star as her has her finger on the pulse of the nation. Who's next to come to the aid of the trans community? Blazin' Squad? 3 of a Kind? Those three spic bitches who did The Ketchup Song?

Her new song is an embarrassing, jumbled mess of several completely unrelated arguments, relative privation and Trump Derangement Syndrome, but I'll say this for her, at least 'GERMs' is a new insult, and she wasn't just calling TERFs 'FARTs' like every sad handmaiden on Tumblr tried to make stick for almost a decade, completely ignored by all the men in the room, who'd rather just call them misogynistic slurs.

Maybe she should wind her neck in and go back to flogging pictures of her arse on OnlyFans because that makes her more money than her musical career, and leave the feminism to women who actually know what the fuck they're talking about.

It's not even an unrealistic name for a Chinese girl in Britain in the late 80s/early 90s. Romanization hasn't always been fixed and formalized, pinyin in particular was only just getting adopted around then, so sometimes the name you got was the best guess spelling from the well-meaning man at the immigration desk. The chink translations have her as given name 秋 (Qiu), family name 张 (Zhang). I know people IRL whose family names got hit with the same Zh -> Ch transformation when they immigrated.

Also it's interesting how JKR's detractors won't bat at eye at names like "Daedalus Diggle" and "Severus Snape" but Cho Chang is problematic. It's only whimsical wizard naming culture when native British whites do it I guess.

From what I understand Cho and Chang come from different regions. Like Shaun Evans or something.

The critique side is pathetic though. It is a giant therapy session. "The thing you used to love but now hate is actually objectively terrible! Don't feel about hating it because lit science agrees!". They would all wave away Cho Chang as a silly fuckup by Rowling who just strung two chinese sounding names together without a second thought. But now she's EVIL(tm) it is a big problem. You're allowed to say you don't like Rowling and her books without making up reasons.

Chang is cantonese and a very commonly encountered Chinese surname in the UK, due the number of hong kong residents who moved here in the 60s and 70s; the name is very common in Hong Kong. It's somewhat less common in other parts of east asia.

As for Cho, people get caught up on the specifics of romanisation and forget that this was written by a British writer in the 90s, at a time when hong kong chinese were being widely feted and where there was a significant, well-established Hong Kong Chinese disapora in the UK. Given it's likely she only heard the name but never saw it written down, there are multiple candidates. The most likely is Zhu, often romanised Chu and often pronounced (or heard) Cho or Zho. It's a fairly common hong king Chinese given name. Back in the little northern farm town I grew up in, there was a chinese chippy that opened in the late 80s, run by a family of Changs. The girl in front was called Chu Chang.

So, it's a real name that Rowling is very likely to have ancountered due to the circumstances in the UK at the time she was writing. The majority of the racism claims come from lefty Americans, or people heavily influenced by lefty American wittering, who don't understand the cultural and social dynamics of the early 90s hong kong disapora in the UK and just want an excuse to call her racist. You know, morons.

No mentions of Musk or Trump or other usual suspects from what I can tell from a casual scroll through. These people are frothing at the mouth for her future death. Absolutely unhinged behavior.

The South Park GIF Rowling posted on Xitter reminded me of the double standards that shitlibs have towards JK Rowling and Matt Stone and Trey Parker in regards to their positions on the trans debate.

South Park brutally makes fun of tranny shit in a few episodes and left-wing fans shrug and say that South Park mocks everyone regardless of their creed so it's OK. JK Rowling writes a letter detailing her concerns about what the impact the trans rights movement will have on women's rights in the most gentle and non-offensive way and she receives the most horrid, vile messages from so-called "fans" of the Harry Potter series. We haven't seen any South Park fans burn their South Park merch and send Matt and Trey numerous death threats for daring to make fun of the precious crossdressing perverts like how Harry Potter fans have done so. Even as a man I can tell that the differing reactions really just boils down to misogyny plain and simple.

Possibly, also they know that "cancellation" would have the opposite effect on Matt and Trey.

A touch of such controversy would just be written in as a parodic take during the next season of South Park.

Maybe also as Matt and Trey attended the Oscars or something in dresses and tripping on acid, there are troons who are secretly hoping that both will come out as having been trans all along.
