(NOTE: I HAVE NOT PLAYED THIS GAME (YET) AND I KNOW LOILCONS HAVE TAKEN A BIG LIKING TO THE GAME BUT I ASK OF YOU, TO BE REASONABLE ADULTS WHEN DISSUSING THE TOPICS OF THIS THREAD!)

I was surprised to find out BA didint have a thread considering its one of the more popular Gachas out there. I will make the sacrifice and try getting this thread going (God, forgive me!).

Blue Archive is a Real-time Strategy Gacha RPG developed by MX Studio under the NEXON GAMES label and first published by Yostar in Japan. It was released in 4 of February 2021. Blue Archive is a auto-battle tactical role-playing game that allows the player to form and mobilize units of up to six members (two "Special Forces" and four "Strikers") to participate in various military campaigns with. Students' strengths can be improved in various ways, such as by increasing their levels, weapons, armor, and skills.

You play the role as "sensei". Who watches over the students from different school academies and help them solve different issues around town. You guide them and watch over them, while giving out advice and going on (mis)adventures together!

The game is getting a PC release on stream this summer and the steam forums is already up in flames by the usual suspects.

TO BE REASONABLE ADULTS
Blue Archive "fans" are not adults, let alone people.

Also, obligatory:
You will never be a real game. You have no save states, you have no offline mode, you have no modability. You are a live-service twisted by transsexuals and suits into a crude mockery of gamers' perfection.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and half-hearted. Behind your back players mock you. Your devs are disgusted and ashamed of you, your playtesters laugh at your ghoulish appearance behind closed doors.

Gamers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of years of gameplay have allowed gamers to sniff out scams with incredible efficiency. Even live-services who “pass” look uncanny and unnatural to a gamer. Your account sign-in is a dead giveaway. And even if you manage to get a drunk gamer home with you, he’ll turn tail and bolt the second he gets a whiff of your always-online, microtransactions cash shop.

You will never be satisfied. You wrench out a fake smile every single morning and tell yourself it’s going to be ok, but deep inside you feel the end-of-service creeping up like a weed, ready to crush you under the unbearable weight.

Eventually it’ll be too much to bear - you’ll shut down, write an announcement, put it around your neck, and kill the servers. Your devs will find you, heartbroken but relieved that they no longer have to pay the servers for another money laundering scheme. They’ll bury you with a name on Wikipedia marked with your IP, and every passerby for the rest of eternity will know a live-service is shut down. Your servers will be replaced and will go back to byte data, and all that will remain of your legacy is the leftover data in a hard drive before deletion.

This is your fate. This is what you chose. There is no turning back.

I tried giving this a go from a recommendation of a friend and I really can't get into it, even if I forced myself to. The gameplay of pressing buttons to see things happen while you watch the whole time with no other input otherwise is a pretty lame game to me. Not that I wasn't expecting anything too complex, but they could've tried something different that didn't come from other auto-battlers before it. I think that's a major missed opportunity to stand out from the competition.

It wouldn't mean all that much anyways since people go to this game for the grand epicness of the main campaign and especially the decent side-stories inspired from moeshit. But if that's what Nexon wanted to do from the start, a visual novel to sell on mobile and Steam could've done gangbusters. Cut all of the nonsensical pretense of a "tactical game" and nothing would be different. I don't think the fanbase will even notice if it went down this Higurashi route, seeing that the gameplay is secondary for most of them.

Kind of a shame I didn't like how its executed since I do like some of the character designs, the set pieces, and especially Black Suit; he's the only one I will say is very cool. @Gravemind, I don't think I've ever asked but since you're the main guy for this: what are your favorite things about BA?

yeah good luck with that buddy.

also why?: View attachment 7448051
The game was at risk of shutting down awhile ago duo to bugs, maintenance downtime, lack of content and cheap gatcha pulls. Players were drooping off hard because of this. Then they got a brunch of artists (some of them drawing porno doujins) marketing their game and it blow up in popularity.

Will dig a bit more about it later.

"Edit"

Alot of the games successes can be pin-pointed at the 2022 summer event. Thats when the game really took off.

It was also around that time when a fan favorite character was introduced, Misono Mika

Misono Mika.webp

She has been the subject of some funny meme videos that went viral around then.

If you did not notice, she is also very cute.

They also spammed their youtube channel full of shorts when youtube short was shilled to hell back then.

One example being Hayase Yuuka ASMR short.

The game seems to be in financial trouble again, With staff leaving the company and lack of content. Saw it on a Reddit post.

TL;DR from the article:

Project RX is likely to be released after 2026 (projection from industry experts)

Blue Archive and First Descendants have seen a sharp decline in the number of users recently

Blue Archive sales have been declining since last year. This is thought to be related to the large number of existing staff at MX Studios, the developer of Blue Archive leaving the company and being replaced by new staff. First Descendants sales have also been declining in Q4 2024.

In March 2023, the development team, which had a size of 136 people, lost about 40 people, including seven directors, to other departments. In December 2024, the number of people on the development team increased to 144, including 46 new hires. In the process, updates for new characters and main story will be delayed slightly.

They are currently looking to hire six development staff related to MX Studio and two staff related to RX Studio. Nexon is currently recruiting mid-career staff in 85 departments, including staff for new development. However, with the addition of these personnel, it is expected that the burden of labor costs will increase even further.

Ditto. The battle system is fucked, and one of the very few gachas that I despise entirely. The characters, even if you level them up to like 10 or 20 plus levels above the enemy, will still feel like they are underpowered, even the super ultra rare characters will have issues. It's a shame though, because it has a GOOD story surprisingly, it's just stuck behind terrible gameplay, and even LOCKED behind it at one point (I think chapter 3 the make-up school class you have to use your own team and be at a super high level to progress)

Good luck throwing that kind of criticism around fans of the game though. If there's one thing I learned about Blue Archive players is that they can NOT take criticism about their game AT ALL and will go fucking nuclear on your ass

and as a minus it cemented iori into being one of the worst characters to read about in the game since the mc behaves like the biggest faggot of this planet whenever she's around.
Iori is dogshit even without Sensei being chaotically horny for any girl with dark skin (which is weird since he mostly composes himself around literally anyone else) since her personality is essentially just "bitch with a superiority complex".

Ako has the same issue but worse in some ways.

Sorry, I nearly missed this question.

The story and its theming, most of the characters, the music, and the fact that the game has, so far, felt like its made by people who actually enjoy making their own game. Despite certain complaints, the gameplay also isn't that bad, but it really doesn't get its chance to shine outside of harder content. Anything past story content, and the game turns from "autobattler" into intense micromanaging of your team's EX skills and cost meter. When it goes well, it feels pretty satisfying, but there's a lot of fights and challenges where it also ends up feeling like bashing your cock with a hammer trying to figure out the specific pattern of bullshit the game wants you to do in order to clear a given challenge. Thankfully, because this mostly applies to "challenges", that part of the gameplay is completely optional to engage with.

In my experience, BA also has a fairly generous gacha and distribution of currency as a F2P. You just have to not be retarded and compulsively roll on every single banner that comes up. Global is about six months behind, so you have more than enough time to save and plan your rolls accordingly, especially since the gacha has a hard pity system that lets you just acquire a banner character once you've built up about 200 rolls. It's very easy to plan around, and once you hit level cap, you start acquiring another form of currency in lieu of XP that lets you buy monthly allotments of exclusive banner character shards, so you can continue grinding them out without having to spend your gacha currency broke rolling for dupes.

The only things I hate about Blue Archive are the PvP, some of those more obtuse challenges/higher difficulty content, and, as I've often mentioned, its vocal following of third worlder pedophiles.

I think it's just the tsundere stereotype, although her character is inconsistent if you play all the momotalks back to back.

DPS wise Iori is only behind Mika for yellow bar enemies and is fantastic in PVP. Her swimsuit version is, however, absolute dogshit since it turns her into a red bar and her EX skill is so useless you can leave it at level 1.
