Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
So not only is YT filled with ads, it looks like it writes ~20 MB to one's drive every half our or so, if one has a tab open to any YT videos. Either incompetence or malice.

YouTube is forcing AI generated translations on both titles and even automatic translation. Except they have no way to disable it.

As someone who speaks multiple languages this is a fucking nightmare. I want to know what language a video and creator are using BEFORE I click a video, and I do not fucking want your worthless algorithm translating titles and ruining it (I for example saw a video named "Why this letter was only used once", and YouTube autotranslated it to Portuguese except they translated letter as in a mail letter not a alphabet letter)

Having the exact same issue. Looking up on google is fucking useless as no way that I work the issue it just sends me worthless slop Android "news" sites or slop videos with "fixes" that are "saar update phone saar"

Worst part is I tried to uninstall the YT app, so it removed all updates and so the buttons came back but it wouldn't let me connect to the internet. So I update the app and guess what?

I open it, the buttons show up for a fraction of a second and then disappear again!

No idea how to solve it. Might as well ignore the app for now.

Companies should be shut-down and go bankrupt for pulling that kind of crap. Unless someone tore the pages of the book and wiped their ass with it, there was absolutely nothing wrong with those books. Just order a new fucking book for christ sakes.

Thankfully the AutoZones around me still have the books for windshield wipers, but if you leafs are getting fucked with, I can only imagine how quickly that shit will happen to americans.

Confirmed this worked for me too. And just because we have to work with reddit for this one doesn't mean we DON'T have to be passive aggressive about it.
Hey all -

So I've been seeing a lot of posts on here where people are getting hit with youtube ads / the dreaded adblock message - even with uBlock origin or similar installed.

Usually it only takes a day or so for uBlock to catch up and start working again, so recommended you use it most of the time.

However - when other stuff is not working, you can use this simple little userscript I made instead. Works in chrome, firefox, opera, etc.

Install instructions:

  1. Install Tampermonkey (or any other userscript manager you like) https://www.tampermonkey.net/
  2. If you're using chrome, click the extensions icon up the top, click "manage extensions", then on the screen that opens - up the top right is a toggle box that says "developer mode". You need to turn this on.
  3. Visit this link and press install to add the userscript (you need to copy and paste this link in a new tab, you can't just click it from reddit not sure why): https://github.com/goodtube4u/goodtube/raw/refs/heads/main/beta/goodtube-embed.user.js
Turn off uBlock or whatever else you're using, refresh, you should be good to go.

This will work for 99% of videos, but will not work if the video has embedding disabled. It's pretty much always enabled, but in rare cases you won't be able to watch something without turning this little script off.

But yeah, works well and is a decent fallback while you're waiting for uBlock, etc to fix the issue on their end. It also blocks on page ads, etc too.

Oh yes, should also mention it removes all shorts. It makes em gone, dead, done. If you want to destory your mind with shorts then this is not the solution for you haha.

Shorts aside - it's pretty discreet, you probably won't even notice you're using it. Just watch vids, listen to tunes like normal - happy days.

Basically it's like "oh man ublock died" flick this on instead, all good. Then eventually I find a video with embedding disabled and I'm like "damn, let's turn ublock back on" and usually by that time it's working again. So I swap between the two and I haven't seen an ad in over a year (using chrome).

It also works on mobile, but on Android you'll have to use Firefox Nightly to install tampermonkey and use userscripts. For iOS you'll have to use Orion Browser and install violentmonkey to use userscripts. Not quite as nice as the normal interface but it works well enough.

p.s. If you're a more advanced user here's some info:
You can ignore the Github repo - the old version there stopped working ages ago when Invidious and Piped went offline (which it needed). The script I have linked is a little beta version I never got around to officially releasing. It uses the embed script and some trickery to get around the Youtube ads.

There's really no reason not to use Freetube, unless you rely on shit that requires an account which there isn't much for except bullshit Age-restrictions. I think it's one of the best current alternatives to using YouTube directly.

I just wish I was able to hide shorts from appearing in search results. There's always more shorts compared to actual videos whenever I search for stuff.

Im getting the dreaded message on Brave so is it best to try this or just wait for Brave to update itself to unfuck Google's jewish tricks?

something i just noticed when watching Primitive Technology's new video, freetube's captions don't seem to work anymore not on his videos or anyone else's
