I'm beginning to hate Type-C docking stations as they only reliably handle one monitor and the port wears out with use rather quickly. At this point I could probably use a handheld PC with a Z2E cpu in it as my main computer, but not if I have to fuss with a docking station that doesn't connect to all of the monitors every boot without lots of futzing.
I don't think I've had a type-c port wear out yet and I've had a couple that've been in daily use for like 3 years at this point. What kind of laptop is it?

ThinkPad X1 Yoga gen 6. Though to elaborate, the port still works fine for charging but if I wake the computer and not all monitors connect then it takes multiple disconnects and reconnects for it to work again, and it was getting worse over time.

I did have like three or four smartphones that had to be replaced because their type-c port died, and I know friends that had the same problem.

MLID alleges the existence of "Navi 48X" (this name and "9080 XT" are placeholders) engineering samples on TSMC N4X or N3X, hitting higher clock speeds, and using GDDR7, with 32 GB for consumer and 48 GB for a professional variant (3 GB GDDR7 on 256-bit). It could gain enough performance to match the 5080 or 5080 Super.

He compared it to the Radeon VII (Vega 20 XT), which was like (not exactly) a one-off die shrink of the RX Vega 64.

Seeing how folx have willingly bought the 9070 series over MSRP, AMD could sell this at $1,000 without worrying about it rotting on shelves. Using a different node and memory type, it shouldn't displace supply of 9070/9060. It may be timed for release alongside FSR4 "Redstone" later in the year.

When is this guy ever right about anything?
Plenty of times. He leaked the name and correct details of Strix Halo as early as April 2023. Most detractors bring up his Intel Arc "effectively cancelled" statement, the fake slide photo he got duped into sharing a few months ago, and other cheap shots, but he has scored wins.

If he's going to get a big leak wrong, this could be it. But if there are real engineering samples, AMD could cancel it and the prototypes can emerge later. Like the unreleased 4090 Ti.
Should be interesting if they make one with 20 or 24GB of VRAM. Could be something for the higher end market to finally upgrade to.
24 GB GDDR7 would be enough for a consumer version. I assume at that time 3 GB modules would be cheaper than clamshelling and using 2 GB modules for 32 GB (I've seen arguments about this when discussing 12 vs 16 GB on 128-bit). Aiming for 20 GB doesn't make sense as the leaked card as described would be unambiguously faster than a 7900 XTX. 20 GB in particular would either require an increase in memory bus to 320-bit, or I guess they could put 3+3+3+3+2+2+2+2 (four of each) GDDR7 modules on 256-bit, which would be strange.

I was wondering if a game I was playing had issues because I have DDR4 instead of DDR5. I found this article that ran through quite a few games, and the conclusion was that in games, memory bandwidth is rarely a limiting factor outside a few titles at ultra-high frame rates. The article writer seems to have no idea what they're doing, since high screen resolution shouldn't hit main memory appreciably harder.

I remember him leaking this and getting shit when it never came out. But recently gn put out a video that matched his leak.
Mlid Leak: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwZr4kp2gnc&t=150s
GN Vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyliMCnrANI
Its funny because aside from a few things he's been pretty spot on for many of his leaks. It his opinions where you should be cautious because he make crazy claims sometimes.
Another thing he leaked was the 9070xt performance and he was spot on, and this was while everyone was saying it was gonna be as fast a a 700xt. Yet he was firm on the 9070xt being around the 4080 claims. He also pretty much leaked rdna2 . So i trust his leaks generally.

Managed to get a 2TB SSD on sale for 90 dollars. Was going to get two 1TB ones, but that deal was too good to pass up. For a little less than the price of two super cheap M.2 1TBs, I got one 2TB M.2. That's insane. Last time I built a new computer, SSDs were over 100 dollars for 1TB.

Also got a new 500GB SATA one for the OS in case the old ones I have laying around don't work. Seems dumb to waste an M.2 slot on the OS drive.

Was going to get two 1TB ones,
You only get so many M2 slots on motherboards so you may as well just get a single larger drive over multiple smaller ones.

Seems dumb to waste an M.2 slot on the OS drive.
You say that until you experience how much quicker everything is. Just partition off 400GB for the OS and all the system files or programs, then leave the remaining 1.6TB for whatever you're using the system for.

I really wish that Logitech partnered with companies to integrate their Unify tech into laptops so I don't have to deal with that damn dongle in the port. the dongle is tiny but it's in a place where the weight of the laptop is on it when it's on a lap and it always seems to be in the way when handling it

Most Logi Unify products also support Bluetooth. Try setting them into pairing mode (same instructions as pairing with a Unify/Bolt dongle) and opening your Bluetooth menu.

Yeah honestly aside from egregious example graphics aren't really the problem with gaming right now. Medium settings on most gams look fine. the problem i have have is a lack of gameplay innovation in general. Aside from control schemes improving and qol being better in some ways. Gameplay has not evolved much imo from ps3/360 era, and the stories are shittier too with few exceptions. And the abuse of remakes.
Even low settings looks fine. Gaming right now is like space hash communism, pay a little, play on low, you might get smeared shadow edges but you're not missing any of the effects.
I don't think we've seen a single technology advance since 2015 that has been necessary. But, of course, graphically it's somewhat jarring ("waiter, there are not enough gold flecks in my caviar") that we have these beautiful, almost photo-realistic environments, and then a grenade tossed into an office always breaks the computer screens in exactly the same way, or a warhammer swung against a wooden door always knocks out a chunk of exactly the same shape, or smacking my Ferrari into a light post always results in exactly the same bumper deformation, or driving tanks across farmfields merely results in track decals appearing on the mud.
You should check out Alone in the Dark from ~2010. It had really interesting ideas about physics and gameplay. And fire. And fluids. I have a vivid memory of not bothering to find the keypad code to a security door, a mandatory part of the tutorial. Instead I stood there and deformed it with a fire extinguisher until it popped out of the lock. Then I got the door stuck by deforming it even more and soft locked myself. welp. But it was cool.

But later on I was out of resources and fled into a restroom, set fire to the toilet stalls with lighter fluid(I think) so they weakened, kicked a door into pieces and grabbed a burning piece of toilet door to kill the demons pursing me. They can only be killed with fire. It's a shit game, don't play it, but it had really interesting ideas. Unfortunately they didn't have time to finish it before Infogrames/Atari pushed it out the door. One of the things they really, really didn't want to do was including firearms. They tried to design around it but didn't have enough time, obviously. So there's a gun in the game. It's a fascinating game that doesn't behaves right if you have more than 512MB of VRAM.

What kind of docking station do you use? Is it called "Local No-Brand X" or something? What kind of laptop are you using, some can't output more than [x] amount of pixels. If the dock has multiple DP/HDMI outputs it should be able to run all of them(depending on...). Also, use an appropriate USB-C cable.
USB-C cables for docking stations can get worn out but I've seen plenty that have well over a thousand insertions/pulls over their lifespan. And 97% of them still works fine. A hot tip for people with docks that suspect their USB-C cable is getting a bit worn, TURN IT AROUND! One end of the cable have been plugged/unplugged many times, the other side might have been plugged in once or twice.

I saw on LinkedIn that data center GPUs are currently sitting at around 13% utilization. This is absolutely abysmal. Typically, when you design some sort of rent-a-service, you shoot for 25% utilization as your break-even point. Also, supposedly, pretty much all the AI revenue out there is ChatGPT licensing out its tech to scam-tier startups with no business plan sucking up VC money. I can't wait for this bubble to pop.

Most Logi Unify products also support Bluetooth. Try setting them into pairing mode (same instructions as pairing with a Unify/Bolt dongle) and opening your Bluetooth menu.
My Logitech headphones switch to low-quality mono audio in Bluetooth mode. Beware.

Lmao, all those countries that built datacenters are in for a really rude awakening.

Just get wired headphones. SHP9500s are pretty comfy and decent in terms of audio.

Could someone help me understand why my PC keeps making these bizarre noises while idle, yet doesn't when under load, it's the strangest thing.

Is this the water cooler pump acting up?

Sounds like a fan struggling to start up. Take the cover off, and observe all the fans that are stopped. Do whatever causes this noise, and look if any of the fans seems to be vibrating or shuddering back and forth rather than actually spinning. You may have a dying chipset, NVME, or GPU fan.
