You can't explain romantic love without mentioning the biological drive to reproduce and the institution of the nuclear family. Basically, you don't just want sex you trust someone enough to have and care for their children together and all the tribulations that come with it.
The further you get away from that, the less meaning "romantic love" has, like a platonic, non-fuckable partner.

Every once in a while I like trawling through smaller fandoms on Tumblr to see what pops up. Today's flavour was "The Fruitless Quests of Nabiu" by TerminalMontage, where I found this, among other things (including ship art between Wizzro and the Broccoli Knight or whatever his title is).
These are humanised versions of the main character and the deuteragonist. For those not in the know, TerminalMontage uses pretty simple character designs (in this case specifically referencing old video games).
