The perspective fiscal conservatives advocate for is understandable but it isn't very attractive politically, especially if spending cuts start effecting things used by sizable portions of the country. Wasteful funding needs to be eliminated but the GOP needs to move with surgical precision and focus on the matter.

What I think is most frustrating is the GOP has a razor-thin advantage right now in Congress and there are sitting members of the party willing to piss it away for principles that serve no purpose. Let's say the fiscal hawks get what they want. Do they think that will redound to the party's benefit in 2026 or 2028? I don't think so. I think what they are doing is short-sighted at best and selfish at worst.

This is what blows my mind. Trump wants to get the spending bill done and then work on other problems so the Democrats are forced to take the big fat L and flail impotently for the next year. I am very sympathetic to the fiscal hawks, but this one should be a no-brainer. The President has always been the face of his party's leadership, so it doesn't do the party any good to snub the president's spending bill. It really blows my mind that the Democrats have better whips than the GOP after all these years. Where the fuck is Tom Emmer?
