UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Why the Hell are there not enough doctors and obstetricians in this country? It's not like it's difficult to know a population will need them.

Because the GMC actively gatekeeps number of medical degree places for Doctors and for nursing and allied health professions, so like nursing, midwifery (and audiology, physiotherapy, podiatry and a slew of others) the fact they made those qualifications degree based, instead of practical and vocational 1. Puts off the right kind of applicants and 2. Attracts some absolute dreck into them.

Also, when you need the results of a consultation, which country processes them because the NHS and GMC deem it acceptable?

A few hints: Crocodile Dundee, Kylie Minogue, Men At Work, Rolf Harris and David Campese.

Only just learnt that today from an NHS Auxilary, she seemed startled that I thought it was wrong.

Idiot. Also this is the kind of policing I like to see - appears when needed, targets someone actually doing something wrong and quick and professional about it. He's honestly lucky the police were there. I'd have been on him like a brick from Heaven.

Reminds me of another idiot prank that went wrong.

I don't know where these people get the idea that this is funny. When I think of prank I think of things like this:

Also, does he actually look like that or was it a disguise?

Why? To keep wages up? Or some even more sinister agenda? I'd like to learn more about this.

Right, my schizo conspiracy theory is that the push to add more recruits under the notion of "We need to protect us from Russia" is the UK realising they need a standing army ASAP in case anything major kicks off in the UK.

If a hundred thousand people started to smash down the barriers of parliament do you think the 20k or whatever army blokes stationed around the UK would be able to do a thing? I mean they could always use one of their fancy fighter jets to drop white phosphorus on them but as an armed presence as a standing army? Lmao.

Makes a lot of sense.

If the Government felt that was coming, however, I think that Starmer would be 'retired'.

Anything like another Southport on a larger scale, making the riots of the early 2010s look like a cakewalk in comparison, and even they'd have to say 'enough is enough'.

My slightly more bat-shit insane theory is that Russia has sent KGB cell 'migrants' here to assassinate MP's and will bring the Government down without any civilians getting hurt. They'll work with existing Russian Ops in Youth Demand, Just Stop Oil and pro-Palestinians to bring this about.

I'm not wholly sure. @Otterly may know?

This makes a lot of sense. The Army are drafted in during times of strikes, shortages or needs for security.

Too risky for all involved and a destabilised UK would be looted by niggers over night and by the light of dawn it would be a caliphate.

He would be seen as a hero. Can you imagine those in power being told "if it kicks off, I will impose Martial Law and we are free to do whatever the fuck we want"? The MPs would Jizz so hard that the houses of parliament would look like an explosion at a porridge factory.

Sorry what’s the question?
I think you've been drafted in because of your background in biochemistry etc. but the question was about medical doctors and their scarcity. I'd asked no-one in particular why there is such a scarcity of qualified people in this country - doctors, obstetricians, the lot. @BongoMongo said that the GMC deliberately gatekeeps the numbers of domestically trained practitioners limited. I was curious why and how. Anything on this, really.

I mean, maybe you do know because you're pretty well-informed on a lot of things. But I don't think you know just because you work with test-tubes. I think that was the thinking. I'm genuinely interested in this as it seems a fundamental issue in our country and the cause is weirdly vague to me.

Yeah she’s right. The BMA (British medical association) and the GMC is effectively a guild system. They keep numbers low and that keeps pay up. Or kept it up, because it doesn’t look so good now after a few years of insane inflation and an infinite supply of ‘doctors’ from abroad. Some of whom are of course perfectly well trained and competent but an awful lot are not. Quite a few aren’t really even doctors. Why pay to train when you can hire from the third world ? As to how, they collude with the unis to keep the number of medical school places lower.
Up until a few years ago when the mass migration and inflation happened, doctors pay was insanely good.
Phds and mds used to be roughly the same sort of pay grade. While PhD pay was degraded along with everyone else’s from the seventies onwards, MDs wasn’t because of that guild type protection.. Fairly sure there’s a few articles online discussing this divergence, I remember reading about it quite a bit as a young academic being paid peanuts.
The bma has been taken over by hardcore leftists, so you can expect its ability to enact any useful kind of change for its members to stop fairly soon.

Well the stupid fuck played centrist to a centre right party. The British as a whole have hated burkas as well as the Europeans. It was a really retarded take to call Sarah dumb. I knew it was over when Anderson backed her because Zia was hell to work with allegedly but most probably.

He was on borrowed time anyway if he thought a Britain first movement was going to accept a raghead then he is out of touch.

Reminder to all that the armed forces are no longer responsible for their own recruitment and this has also like all other aspects of government have been given to Capita. This company over it's time as responsible for recruiting have rejected nearly 200K applications to join the military. The more you know.

I wouldn't be so sure in calling Reform decidingly centre-right, to me the party has a massive identity problem which prevents it from establishing a coherent ideology and by extension coherent policy, the top brass largely just seem to be aping MAGA whilst the membership itself leans more rightwards.

Yusuf was not alone in the Reform divide, Anderson and Tice in particular loathe genuine right-wing thought in favour of their slopulism (IE: "Heh, the woke won't like this!"), so it remains to be seen what happens to the party.

Reform themselves don't really consider themselves right wing or at the very least they wont say it. Most of the time when you push them to be more right wing they'll just tell you that there centrist (note not centre right). I've spoken to some actual socialists that are a part of the Reform party mostly due to feeling betrayed by Labour on the unions or for immigration grievances.

The party doesn't really know what it is other then a lot of shared key issues but that's just caused a ton of internal problems on direction (such as Zia blocking a lot of stuff relating to Muslims).
