He's making the same category error here as half of the rest of the GOP politicians, as well as most of the aforementioned European "right-wing" parties. Your right-wing base aren't going to flock to a party of "Fiscal responsibility" and other such things, because those are nice-to-haves that are the concern of a people that are in ownership of their own country, in the same way that the structural upkeep of a house is the concern of a homeowner. What is driving right-wing western parties is White anxiety that they are going to be replaced, and have any demographic domination over their own countries forcibly removed in the next 5-15 years. When there's no ethnic ownership of a country, there is no fiscally prudent right-wing voter base. Either it's far down the list of priorities compared to securing your own demographic future, or you are yourself essentially a rootless renter inside the country, in which case you want to maximise the amount of slop the government feeds into your particular demographic trough.

In hindsight, for his goals (i.e. assuming Elon dipped his toes in politics for the same reason most billionaires do - to grift taxpayer dollars/cushy contracts from corrupt politicians and/or avoid getting caught up in federal regulations or investigations) Elon sure picked the wrong administration to attempt to, well, "purchase". Like, the Dems were all for "environmentally friendly" electric cars/electric car subsidies to save the Ozone-layer or whatever Green bullshit they love to push (*conveniently ignoring the environmental impact of Lithium/rare Earth mineral mining, or how the cars being charged often use electricity from coal powered plants...) Dems would have tripped over themselves to do away with H1-B visa quotas, so they can sell it as "immigration reform" importing in new Democrat voters.

TLDR, Elon Musk should have tried all this during the Biden administration. & since Biden's brain was a potato/his administration was too busy hiding that very obvious fact from the room IQ temperature members of the general public, Elon probably would have been given much more autonomy to push his agendas than compared to what he was given by Trump.

In other words, Elon had the right idea, but the delivery and execution was way, way, WAAAAAYYY off and he betted on the wrong horse.
