I can't imagine the circumstances under which any parents, even bizarre garbage parents, would say "ok, child with no job or hope of getting one and no ability to solve things for herself, we'll put you up in a hotel a week at a time."

I think the key thing is that they still think she's an NYU student and they don't want to admit to their friends that she (functionally) dropped out. I suspect the sublet was an academic year or spring semester sublet and she claimed she would find a summer internship or something for summer housing.

I would love to know what actually goes on with Vicky’s housing situation drama. You know it’s nowhere near as dire as she says it is, and she's never anywhere remotely close to being “homeless”.

Unfortunately, I’ve learned over the years that it takes most people a lot before they’ll actually allow a family member to truly fall flat on their ass. (Even if said family member has committed actual crimes against them.) Typically an unholy combination of sentimentality and guilt is at play.

Vicky’s parents have clearly tried to set boundaries and make compromises and push her to actually do shit, but Vicky always paints this as them being unfairly cruel and “coercive” because they don’t submit to her demands outright. I suspect paying for her rent is the only compromise that actually works, in the sense that it keeps her living in another state. (Not to mention that they’ve divorced and might have sold the home that contained her “accessibility” accommodations and moved into smaller places.)

Edit: After reading @Zemblan Physics post… you might be onto something. There’s also the possibility that Vicky has a benefactor who isn’t her parents. (Like the Mott who mostly paid for her mastectomy.)

With a side of just gave up trying to reason with her. We've seen that Vicky will quite literally shit herself and do nothing rather than accept a solution that isn't to her preference. After seven-eight years of that I can see her parents giving her enough money that she stays fed and watered and otherwise letting her go to hell how she wants to.

It's possible she gets some set amount of money every month and has just no idea whatsoever how to make that work for a budget. That might make the most sense. If it was $3-4k/mo, it'd be very easy to run through that with a week of delivery food and the month's extortionate NYC sublet rent, and then have nothing in the cupboards for the rest of the month. Yeah, that probably makes the most sense. It is interesting that she's not trying to ebeg this time around, though. She used to do it all the time.

Probably cos it gets nothing, and that is both depressing as a fall from grace for her, and also shows this fact up to the great wide audience.
Not what you want people to see when you are larping as a disability rights activist and the great new academic hope for the field.

But basically it's cos there's nothing doing. There's SO many funds, for Palestinians, as well as every other genderspecial. There's just nothing left to go around. Nah, there may not be lots of talking but they pay the bills. Paying the bills can mean less talking which is a plus to them. Her parents still fund her decade long NYU college adventure.

I don’t believe she has access to a trust, yet. If she does have access to any trust fund it was one only to “pay college expenses” which means as long as she can pretend to be a student her living expenses and tuition are paid out of it. This is a pretty common arrangement, paying for college is usually considered good use of trust funds. It would also explain why Vicky is desperate to keep her “student” status even though she doesn’t go to school.

It’s very rare for a trust to give access to funds, without strict oversight or directed purpose, until 27, 30 or 35 or 40. Too many wealthy families have seen the disaster that happens when an 18 or 21 year old gets access to their trust fund. Only if her parents were dead could I see her having access to a trust fund.

Given her parents have witnessed she’s a mentally unstable midwit since age 15 they would have definitely put the reigns on any access to money and made them far tighter than they probably ever thought necessary. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have arranged a trust as if she was a legit retarded child that will need care and oversight after their deaths. Some trust will pay her rent and utilities plus monthly cash stipend, just the rich girl version of SSI.
