I do believe we need a stronger ID system in place, because social security numbers are easy to spoof. But i’d only support such a system that has strong privacy regulations in place. E.g. some personal info is strictly need to know and requires a judge to sign off for access to specific information snippets only.

I don’t trust this administration with any of that.

I doubt that crowd monitoring is ever gonna get to the level of China or North Korea. For it to work, you need the whole society restructured around the state. Every healthcare institution has to be controlled by the state, so the state would have direct access to all of your medical records. Every educational institution must be controlled by the state, to ensure that there is as little deviation to curriculum as possible and expunge any sort of anti-government ideas. Hell, even CEOs must be subservient to the state, so that if anybody like Musk shows up to cause shit, you "disappear" them both from existence and public memory. And MOST importantly above all... the state must heavily restrict ownership of guns, arms and any sort of weaponry, to ensure any sort assassination attempt or revolution against the great leader proves to be impossible.

All of this I simply find to be impossible within the US, because it currently is entering the trajectory of the federal government losing more and more of it's grip over the country, as everything is encouraged to privatize and states are given more liberty to pass their own laws and agendas. Encouraging homeschooling and private education sounds fine and dandy, until somebody in California uses these policies indoctrinate kids about Marxism and critical race theory, while also teaching them how to intercept police radio stations and how to repair and maintain rifles. Even if Trump were to reverse course and alter a substantial amount of his promises and domestic policy, while his followers keep clapping like seals, radically reforming American society like that in less than 4 years is physically impossible, unless he plans to stage a coup, execute everybody from congress and courts he doesn't like, burn the constitution and somehow ensure strict loyalty from the military.

USA is not centralizing, it's decentralizing into banana republic, where the state is left helpless to pass any sort of meaningful reform, as it's stuck balancing private corporate interests. It's a paper tiger dictatorship. The state can swing around it's fists all it wants, claim how it is omniscient about everything, anywhere, anybody does, it won't change the fact that it remains inadequate in doing something as basic as kicking out teenagers from shooting up heroin in child playgrounds or homeless people filling up public parks with tents.

Picture it this way, imagine if one part of the country, Florida, is allowed to burn books and trannies at the stake, while monitoring everybody's computers to ensure any presence of pornography alerts the police, while simultaneously, California, keeps making cartoons of little girls kissing while their schools lecture kids on white privilege.

What kind of society is that gonna lead to? How would the federal government organs even utilize online IDs, particularly since FBI and CIA are targeted for budget cuts??? How can laws be enforced on a federal level? It would be a bureaucratic nightmare in trying to keep up with so many different laws and regulations between all 50 states (not counting territories like Guam or Puerto Rico). The only functional purpose I can see from those ID laws is making it easier for ICE to deport immigrants (which I still imagine they'll manage to fuck up by jailing US citizens by "accident") and owning the libs by marking every trans person the gender of their birth.

China by contrast has everything so streamlined, that the whole country operates under a single timezone, even if truck drivers moving to Tajikistan need to contend with the clocks moving 3 hours backwards once they cross the border.
