Historically January was (and is) Further Confusion's domain, MLK day weekend in San Jose. While they're no longer the 'Big Two' of furry cons it still wouldn't be a great idea to go head to head.

And unlike FC there's always the chance you'll get a foot of snow and then you're metaphorically fucked.

Who knows, maybe they should start thinking about it - those who are older and don't really care anymore about being all sexy and smutty, huh? - even if we know that the subculture was created thanks to a smut comic (and other stuff I'm just not going to take time to point out).

Regardless, yeah, I forgot about the snow. Then... well, I guess the West Coast is your path to go. Washington or so. Or keeping an eye on those days with short snowfalls on the East Coast and enjoy the comfort for once!

It's not that simple. Anthrocon has been happening in July since 1997 and they have to heavily coordinate with the city of Pittsburgh. Also there are other major furry cons that happen at the same time like MFF for example in December.


Edit because I don't want to double post:

Partials are more affordable, less hot, and a lot easier to travel with. That's the appeal. Poodling, which literally just means you have human skin showing somewhere, has nothing to do with age. Plenty of adults poodle. Some people used to get pissed off saying it "broke the magic" of the character but you don't see that as much anymore.

Because people have been suiting in July for decades. It is honestly not as big of a deal as people in this thread are making it out to be.

Yeah, it's hot. Yeah, you sweat a lot. As long as you hydrate well before and after you'll be fine sweating your balls off for an hour or two. For all their flaws, most full suiters know this perfectly well and do so no issue.

For the most part the people you usually see overheating are the younger ones that don't have a full suit. The "party con" crowd drinks nothing but sugar and liquor and will dehydrate themselves rapidly, especially once you start adding drugs on top of that. Every con has way more medical issues at the nightly "rave" instead of the parade.

Rain kind of sucks. Snow can actually be nice, from what I hear.

It's just as much about the non-suiting participants. Furry cons in downtown areas basically have a huge... I don't know what you call it, mobility footprint. You've got people ranging out up to say half a mile to spread out during lunch and dinner, so ice and snow in that situation is sub-optimal. To say nothing of the travel implications: Getting from the Pittsburgh airport to downtown isn't great at the best of times.

tl;dr: Anthrocon added a new policy that during the fursuit parade, you must be in a full costume with no human skin visible. This has royally pissed off the younger crowd who have been "poodling" (term for wearing fursuits with skin exposed) for years and now are being told "no".

Edit: Actually tried watching the video and it is just the same shit. "Anthrocon takes place in the summer so not having skin exposed to direct sunlight when costuming means heatstroke." Retard.

This is just inaccurate. You have to show your ID to get your con badge and then if you're a minor you usually get some kind of marker on your badge. And then they check your ID again to enter things like the NSFW part of the dealers den etc.

I know we've talked about it for several pages but I'm still cracking up at some of these responses to the no skin/no flags rule, so here are a couple of my favorites:

The outside portion of the Anthrocon parade takes roughly 3-5 minutes to complete. If you pass out after being in the sun for 3-5 minutes you should not own a fursuit.

Pittsburgh definitely asked them to instate the no flags rule bc furries flying the Palestinian flag makes it look like Anthrocon is actively supporting Palestine, which they obviously don't have a public stance on because why would they? It could also potentially incite violence from Pittsburgh locals who don't agree. This is an event streamed online AND shown on Pittsburgh news stations. ACTIVELY SUPPORTING A GENOCIDE lmao you can't make this shit up.
