I think that Ian and Anisa are blowing Ian's dad's issues out of preportion. He could be a deadbeat yeah, but at this point these 2 are such unreliable narrators that we should be primed to believe the polar opposite of what they say. Like Ian said his coach had "toxic masculinity" just for acting like a boxing coach lmao, I don't trust him to make grounded character assessments. Plus, wasn't he flied out to CC1? I believe the boxing coach specifically said that Ian's dad made it to CC1 but "couldn't afford" being flied out for CC2
Obviously we couldn't know for sure what their growing up situation was, but both Ian and Anisa's families seem to be normal. Not perfect, that doesn't exist, but just normal families with drama and issues and all. Ian's sister and her husband seem to be close with her parents. The sister also seems well-adjusted.
Don't know much about Anisa's siblings, besides being dragged down by her to appease twitch degenerates then have a major fallout with her, but i imagine they have normal jobs and are more well-adjusted as well. Compared to Anisa, which isn't hard.
The Jomhas are mentally stunted adults in their thirties, who try to impress teens and 20 year olds. They cover themselves in tattoos on a whim, Anisa gets an OF, get married in the trashiest way possible and try to larp this "edgy" lifestyle. It's not cool, it's embarrassing.
Visiting their parents for family reunions only to find them being normal human beings, focused on "boring" stuff like their jobs, kids, relationships with each other, etc. I imagine sets the Jomhas off. Because theyre in their 30s acting like rebellious teenagers. But daaaaad i'm a big deal on the internet, you making me take out the trash or asking me to shower is literally abuse!!!
Ian is not the cool tattooed uncle with a cool job, he's like the special needs family member they're extra nice to. They both would be much happier if they prioritized having good relationships with their families because a support system like that is important and can't compare to likes on twitter and social media validation. That takes maturity, though, which they don't have. Their behaviour would be excusable if they were teen Hasan fans who will grow out of it, but ffs they're nearing mid 30s. Grow up.
Also, visit your poor grandma from time to time, Ian.
