I'm so glad to see that hbomberguy has a thread here. Like many others, I found his Fallout 3 review and thought it was really clever, and I also enjoyed some of his other videos lampooning things like angry game reviews and the Sonic franchise. He seemed like an educated guy trying to do something entertaining with a pointless college degree (film studies, apparently), which I could appreciate. I knew that he leaned in another direction politically than people I usually watch, but he seemed more reasonable at first. However, horseshoe theory prevails, and once I saw his ludicrous lack of critical thinking applied to social issues, I couldn't stomach him any longer. Anyone who came out on the "punch" side of the "should we punch people we disagree with?" question earlier this year is persona non grata, in my book.

Also, his Twitter is awful. I hadn't seen it before this thread. How's a supposedly thoughtful and educated nigga gonna tell me with a straight face that "Actually, a stateless communal society is a totally feasible and worthwhile goal"?

So I know what you're thinking: "Great! I'm not an SJW, but I don't like the anti-SJWs either! Finally, here's a reasonable person to take them on!" Well not quite. You see, hbomberguy is in fact just a bog-standard SJW.

I wrote this because that was pretty much my reaction to finding him. While I hate SJWs and think any sane person should, I think a few anti-SJWs have gone a bit overboard in their opposition. There's a difference between being opposed to political correctness and being outright racist or sexist and I think the fact white nationalism's been readily embraced by some anti-SJWs is worrying (although I'll defend their right to hold those opinions). There's definitely a gap in the market for criticising certain anti-SJWs, but hbomberguy is emphatically not the person to do it and it saddens me there are people who take him seriously.

His Fallout 3 and gaming videos actually annoy me because they're part of the reason he's so popular - he reels people in with well-made apolitical content like video game reviews, and having established that he's rational and measured guy when it comes to those, it softens them up to be more accepting of his political content. I don't know if that tactic was intentional, but it's very effective. You only have to look at the number of people in this thread saying "Man, I liked this guy. His Fallout 3 video was so good!" to realise how successful he's been at creating the illusion he's a smart guy.

The person who released the skype logs on tumblr is really chatty in private messages. When I last talked to them they told me the "Power Fantasy, Male Objectification and Lady-Fanservice" video was a collaborative script. There was supposed to be a second part about the lack of male sexualization in games... I think? Something about how male characters are under-sexualized and lacking sex appeal that makes female characters look worse than they are, but Hbomberguy cut those parts for a never finished second episode. It would explain why parts of the video feel schizophrenic or poorly thought out. This was apparently the script they were working on together:

I can't tell who wrote what, but I really doubt the references to gay porn were from Hbomberguy. The "lesbians???" one might be though. And it seems to check out on Hbomberguys videos, the comment for that one has this in it;

well i think the point is that anarcho-communists want to use communism as a way to move forward to into a working anarchist society, like you use communism to create a system where everyone works together and gets the same out of their work, and then slowly dissolve the government till you have an anarchist state where people still act the same as the previous communist on. Well, he's mocking it right now because he hasn't been that affected, given that he makes 3,000 dollars (or pounds, whatever) per video, but since his videos will be constantly demonitzed, as they already are, he's going to start feeling the pinch and try to compensate and make more videos, which will drive people to leave his patreon as they won't want to pay every day for some half assed video of his so he can pay his bills. Then he'll start bitching in earnest
