I read that from one of the finest and most respected books on the subject "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" By William Shirer who lived and worked in nazi germany from 1934 to 1940 and was only critizied for NOT talking about the jewish part of the war enough and more or less omitting the atrocities of the concentration camps beyond passing mentions.

He wrote that book with the ability to access ALL the nazi war documents that the allies seized before they were shipped back of to western Germany for some reason.
