This. I remember reading a travel blog from a webcomic author I used to follow. He went to Japan to be an English ALT, and one of the first posts he made was going over his prep and everything for the trip. He said that after he subtracted rent and living expenses, he wouldn't be making anywhere near enough money for it to be viable long term, and that he was really just doing it for the experience. Iirc, most of the money he spent for sightseeing and tourism things came out of his savings. I'll try to remember which webcomic it was and see if I can find the blog. He did a pretty good job with documenting his experience.
Edit: Actually found it pretty quick, the bookmark was in one of my old archives. I only clicked through a few of the entries, and I guess he didn't go into as much detail on his finances as I thought, so I'm probably mixing some of the info with other blogs I've read. Still worth a glance.
