This reveal is especially disappointing because I honestly liked how they stylized Dante Hell in the past updates. Gluttony, Wrath, and Violence were my personal favorites. While yeah it isn't entirely accurate to Inferno, it still fits the game's tone of being Skibidi Toilet-tier cartoon violence instead of something more dramatic like DMC. The punishments in each layer also made sense, like how Gluttony is inside a giant digestive system and Violence is an endless war. So why is Fraud like that? Is it supposed to be that since its inhabitants lied all their lives, the whole layer is made of fake walls and impossible hallways? They already did that concept twice with Limbo and the Garden of Forking Paths. It's not like they have a lack of good source material to pull from either, the Fraud circle in Inferno is extremely descriptive and violent, there's a lot they could have taken from it. The TV and static motifs also make me think they're gonna go the Analog "Horror" route.
If I had to guess, it looks like Ultrakill's dev team has reached a critical mass of trannies to the point that anyone with good taste has been drowned out, so they can't think of anything besides cheap Analog Liminal Backrooms Weirdcore YouTube Kids Zoomerslop "horror" for what should be one of the most violent and horrific sections of Dante Hell.

Also at the start of the level, "WE CAME IN" is written on the wall. I bet at the end it's gonna say "ISN'T THIS WHERE" and it'll be a Pink Floyd reference

That's a pretty disingenuous interpretation, the point of it is obviously not meant to be scary, but to be an intresting battle arena. Plenty of games do the "non eucledian" bit for horror or puzzles, but none of them do it for shooters. Its reasonable imo to try and spice up the last layers with unique level wide effects and twists instead of just making more generic arenas.

"Standard" level design peaked with Violence, there's no point in trying to just do violence again and getting a worse version of it. I assume treachery will also be unique or turn the game on its head in some way.

And besides, yeah it has the backrooms, but in case you didn't notice it also has the O'Neill cylinder/dreamlike inception like wraping city.

This is only the first part of the layer, right? I think 8-2 will introduce some sort of grotesque twist to the area itself. Especially considering how deep in hell it’s supposed to be.
