I'm still mad at TCRF for their coverage of Jimmy Johnson's VR Football '98. Some guy on /vr/ noticed there was a password protected zip file on the disc, someone else cracked it and it contains the full source code of the game, including funny comments like this:

I haven't actually seen the terms of contract TCRF and Dreamhost have personally (that's probably a specific thing just between those two parties, to be honest) but I'm pretty sure Dreamhost won't want to get fucked by GDPR (see: malicious cookie it sets without consent) despite being in America, as well as probably not being interested at all in finding out they're hosting a website more interested in sending off a ZIP Bomb than actually serving the content it's meant to serve.

b) seeing ZSNES sure does take me back, I had a lot of hours spent playing roms on that program. That's another thing: hypocrisy aside, this whole tantrum has nothing to do with archiving vidya. It's not like internet frogs pose any threat to the core purpose of the site, and even if you don't trust them to edit, why block them from even browsing? That's incredibly petty. In fact, the chuds are the ones scraping and backing up content to make it more redundant and secure, and fighting a ridiculous war against this is actively harming their project. Adding onto this post. Because what the fuck.

The people I'm in contact with about this, have one hell of a story. Apparently one of them wrote an email to XKeeper about the site, as they saw a post from them where if they simply asked the admin about procuring a proper up to date dump of the site. Hell, they even apologized for being one of the people scraping the site. They didn't give me the actual email screenshots but gave me this anecdote.

i introduced myself as the person behind the wikiteam scraping thing, and i apologized for it and explained why i did it (because of privacy issues). and i asked that if they put up a full dump of TCRF on archive.org, i will stop scraping it

they told me that the referer thing is old as fuck and has existed for 30 years, and also "if you parked your car in a nazi parking lot and then in my driveway, i have to tell you to leave"

i told that just because the referer thing exists doesn't mean you should use it. and then they start equating that as me supporting them being doxxed and harrased

and then it starts to get heated around there, and they told me to never email them again

Even if the anecdote isn't 100% like the actual email went down (there is a middleman between me and the actual person who sent the email relaying this info), the amount of seethe and mental gymnastics is insane. Especially the latter part, because I don't think gymnastics is even a word they even understand. God forbid someone tries to be reasonable and approachable. In fact, I would literally call this a re-run of the goddamn Jo Li situation because one side is handling this nicely and the other side is screeching like a bunch of fucking retarded apes.
