Can't speak for LA, as I'm rural California and they do whatever they want. But it wouldn't surprise me if their schools have their own entire department that handles just the schools. I know most places have a School Resource Officer or few that mainly deals with school stuff, but falls under the local department. But with LAUSD being so big, they may just have their own cops.
