Star Wars is a modern mythology. (Much ironically as Lucas intended). It provides a moral and imaginative vocabulary for a lot of people.

Andor in particular is basically a show about left wing revolution in tandem with liberal reformist/entryism against fascists that are treated as ruthless but also pathetic minions of the machine.

It’s not surprising that it fits in their world view.

You may laugh and say Redditor or “read a history book”-but in a way this is very normal. Most people don’t base their politics on some deep informed study of historical exigencies and minutia-they get it from myths, from morality plays, from narratives. Humans are narrative and meaning seeking creatures. Rational debate over dates and historiography is alienating and frustrating to most people.

But fiction provides a symbolic format in which ideas and moral lessons may be encoded or absorbed. That speaks to people at a primal level far more effectively than a history lecture.
I remember when andor was just seen as that one Star Wars show that had a minor cult following to it, now it’s treated as the fucking bible 2 for redditors.

Honestly we could've stayed in Iraq and Afghanistan forever if we really wanted, the issue is with with morale and public opinion. The real problem with the U.S when it comes to wars is not our martial capabilities but rather why we fight them. Afghanistan should've been a quick and easy thing to kill Osama bin Laden and punish the Taliban for harboring him while Iraq shouldn't have even been fought as Saddam provided a bulwark against both Salafi jihadism and Iranian influence.
Militarily we dominated. Politicaly it was a crapshoot and not done right. It should have been simple and quick. Instead we engaged in nation building shenanigans.
Sorry the threads been so fast can you fellow kiwis plz share your current stream? ty and god bless

I wasn't talking about George Lucas' Star Wars, that was a mythology. I was talking about Disney's Star Wars, which is propaganda not mythology. What you are describing is people being unknowingly influenced by propaganda.

It doesn’t seem like this protest has spread much beyond LA. Wherein there are deeply entrenched illegals-probably 40% of the population minimum.

Will we get another Floyd summer? Maybe? The Floyd riots escalated within 5-10 days from even conservatives thinking Chauvin went too far too “overturn White civilization now!”.

It doesn’t seem this has happened-you have even liberals who come across as very uncomfortable with the Mexican flag waving. Probably because Mexicans aren’t the same sacrificial victim-gods the way blacks are in modern American culture.

I could be wrong-but I don’t think we’ll see more than scattered protests and maybe some escalation in California proper.

My point is the same. Disney SW fulfills an emotional-moral vacuum. It defines good and bad guys, and whose a hero, a traitor, a coward-especially shows like Andor which focus on courageous revolutionaries juxtaposed to cowardly liberals.

I suspect it’s also just pop culture narrative replacing the Bible/christianity as moral frameworks. “Dumbledore’s army”-millennials grew up reading Harry Potter, and they saw themselves as fighting Voldemort.

Conservatives often make fun of this, but they fail to understand it.

That being-fictional narratives are far more powerful at inspiring people and inculcating moral values than bland lectures or “ackshually X”.
