Fat people, in my experience, tend to have similar pathology. Whether they are aware of it or not, given enough honest conversation they tend to reveal that accumulating fat is sort of a way to insulate, to keep the world away, to keep people away. It's an avoidant strategy; keep people at arm's length, keep people from being attracted to you, keep the world passing you by, and you never have to deal with the risks of betrayal or abandonment.

Of course it doesn't work, they just find each other, and they have all the same betrayals and abandonments, but I believe its nucleus is a deep seated insecurity and fear of connection, because connection requires a vulnerability and that requires a sort of bravery. We just don't raise people like that anymore. Good times make weak people.

That modern foodstuffs fuck with your gut flora and get you into toxic weight gaining cycles doesn't really excuse, because ultimately its calories-in calories-out. But it's a very handy excuse to blame the food, when the core problem is a sub-culture of society that sees no value in itself so why give a fuck.
